I had some switch problems and removed my control plate. I noticed what looks like the type of corrosion you'd see on a battery post on the edges of the cavity. Anyone ever experience this before?

By the way, I fixed the switch.
The tele is a '99 (13 years old).

I have seem corrosion destroy pots before, so yes, I have seen this... And no it wasn't an Arizona guitar... I bought it used from the east coast (USA).... One great thing about living in the Arizona desert is our electronics will last pretty much forever...

Do you mean the white powdery stuff in the cavity? I've found it pretty much all of the guitars I've had over the years and I've always assumed it's some sort of residue from the buffing compound used in the finishing process that brings the varnish to a gloss finish.

Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Not at all, go on. This stuff was on the wood at the edges of the cavity. Looked a bit like dried shaving cream.

The guitar is an ash body, polyester finish, classic series 50's tele.

Yes, that is left over polishing compound residue.
