I recently acquired this 22 fret Tele neck. Seller said he thought it was MIJ. From the headstock logo and general appearance of the neck it appears to be genuine Fender but I have had no luck verifying if it Fender or not. The tuners are unoriginal, there are mounting holes under the installed tuners for standard 2-point mount Fender tuners AND a screw hole from where, at some time, Schaller\Gotoh type tuners had been installed. There is no serial number of any sort but it does have the stamp TET-40 on the neck heel. Can anyone tell me if this is:

1. Genuine Fender
2. Country of original
3. Model it was on

Thanks!

I have my doubts.

To my knowledge, MIJ necks are labled as such.

Lack of a serial number makes it impossible to relate it to any specific guitar model.

The Fender logo is HUGE and looks totally wrong.

Personally, I would not buy it. Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in.

With the TET-40 stamped on the neck, I'm pretty sure you have a made in japan neck. Could be a Fender or a Squier. The walnut inlay truss spot makes me think Fender. What throws me is that the truss adjustment is on the heal, but it's a 22 fret neck (not 21).

The Logo looks similar to that on a 50's or 60's reissue, but is out of possition a bit. a 50's RI would only have 21 frets and a screw and washer further up the headstock instead of the string trees. A 60's RI would have a rosewood fretboard and only 21 frets.
Modern 22 fretters should have the truss rod adjustment at the headstock.

The two string trees is typical of 80's through early 90's.

My best guess makes me think it's one of the made in Korea Fenders, or a made in Japan.
Or possibly an aftermarket replacement neck.

Logo is definitely not that of any of the current reissues:

I've never seen a 22 fret neck with the truss rod adjustment at the heel.

Just for the record, the back of the neck feels very 50's-ish. Not too much clear coat on it so the serial number (if this is MIJ) may have been rubbed off. As for the logo, from what I understand, there have been so many different Teles , especially with the import ones, it is hard to say what is authentic and what isn't.

The TET-40 stamp is what I am the most perplexed by. It reminds me of the kind of neck stamping I have seen on MIJ Fender and Squier necks from the 80's. Has anyone seen that TET-40 stamp before?

Here's your logo, but as I said, it's possitioned wrong. http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 0131600306

The logo is that of the Classic series 50's and 60's teles.

Excuse my terminolgy. In 1999/2000 the classic 50's was called a 50's reissue, in stores, and by Musicians Friend.
Old habits die hard.

Except the Classic series are all 21 frets, not 22.

I seriously doubt it is a legitimate Fender neck.

I have my doubts as well. I've never seen a 22 fret neck with the truss adjustment at the heel either, at least not a Fender neck.
But I won't rule out the possibilty either.
We've all seen enough fakes to know the decal means very little for identification.

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it. I have thrown it up on Ebay to see if anyone can verify it.
I'll report back if I get any interesting information.
