Hello folks.

Advice on Ampliphication settings for my Crate 20 watt amp. Again I am new to guitar however I do spend time experimenting with sound. What recommondations would you have to get me a blues sound (like B.B.King) . . . Also, what settings do you recommend to get a country sound ? . . . . ie Brad Paisley/Dwight Yoakum. Again....I do not have any fancy effects pedals, but I would like to know how to get a similar soundsoff my 20 watt Crate amp. Of course I have over drive and reverb.

How can I "make do" on this 20 watt amp?
Thank you kindly!

Kind of hard to make recommendations (This is the wrong forum anyway for such a question. This is the Fender Telecaster forum. Do you even own a Telecaster?) without knowing which Crate amp you have and whether it has a single tone control, bass and treble controls, bass/middle/treble controls, well, you get the picture. In any case, start with whatever tone controls you have by setting it/them at the midpoint and adjusting until you get a tone that you like. No one can tell you how to get the exact tone you are looking for. It is more than just what the amp is set to. You need to find your own tone, not try and copy someone else's which you will never do.

While there are exceptions, I generally set all the tone controls at neutral - usually 5 or 6 depending whether the amp goes to 10 or 12. I may cut certain frequencies to compensate for the acoustics in different venues. TONE comes from your fingertips, and then type of guitar/type of pickup/type of amp, without really getting into the million other factors that come into play. One thing I will highly recommend if you're interested in obtaining classic tones is to get a tube amp ASAP.

Thanks Bluesky 636 . . . . actually, I made a mistake. I thought I was posting this in the Fender Lounge. I do have a MIM Telecaster 2011. Again, the amp I have is a basic 20 watt practice amp. (2 over drive knobs) (1 clean knob) (3 Equalization knobs) & (1 Reverb knob) . . . I will try to play around with this more to get the sound that sounds right. Thanks for your input!

A lot of how you adjust the tone controls will depend on what kind of guitar you're using and how it sounds in combination with that particular instrument. One thing I can say is that if you're going for a bb king bluesy sound, you'll want to experiment with the gain controls so that you get 'just enough' gain to warm up the sound and give your notes more sustain. hope that helps!
