Hey there!

Since I got my American Special Tele my GAS for another tele has just grown bigger and bigger. But I want something that I can use for a little heavier sounds, not super heavy, but you know what I mean, right? And know I think that I have found it. A Fender Blacktop Telecaster, with humbuckers and all. Seems to suit my needs perfectly, what an coincidence right? :)

So, what do you think guys? Am i making a good choice? One thing is for sure though, the Candy apple red one looks amazing!

And one more thing, rosewood vs. maple. I know it's much personal preference, what what does each wood do to the sound?

what type of music do you play?
either way, on the blacktop tele you can cover blues, jazz and funk to sludge metal and hard rock. i was really suprised when i first got mine, i thought that cause it has humbuckers it wouldnt have that tele twang but it actually kinda does. and the humbuckers distort really well.
you cant go wring with it, for the money, its a top guitar. i've even customised mine a bit and made it my dream guitar :)

It differs very much actually. I play in a cover band, so everything from clean stuff to pretty dirty, so a guitar with humbuckers would be great for me, I believe. ;)

In what ways did you customize it? Please upload a photo if you like! :)

Have you already tried the Jim Root signature model?

I haven't tried it, but personally I don't think it looks as nice as the Blacktop, and the look of the guitar is very important to me. And lastly I don't think that active humbuckers suit the music I'm going to play (mostly rock, but as I said, it's very wide). But I might be wrong? :)

I suggest you to do a comparison test between the Blacktop HH and the Jim Root signature model before deciding which of these guitars suits your playing style better.

I am also looking at the Blacktop. It is still up in the air between that or an Epi LP but I keep coming back to the Tele. Have you considered the Blacktop Baritone? It is an HSS with a 5 way select switch which gives you the best of both worlds and boasts a deeper tone than the standard blacktop. Geez the more I think about it the more I'm convinced.

I bought a candy apple red HH Tele with rosewood fretboard in September and I love it. The red appears more of a wine color indoors, get it in some bright light and it looks alot different. It is one of the most confortable guitars I have played. I have thought of replacing the black knobs with some chrome knurled ones and if possible replace the saddles with some roller type. I intend to keep the strings 9 gauge, the thing plays great for strumming or lead. I have been running mine through a Digitech RP300 and a Front Man 25 practice amp and it sounds good. The pickups on this guitar seem to be pretty hot. I have a MIM 60th anniversary strat and since I got the Tele, I don't play the Strat as often. Image Image

Yes I've considered the Baritone, but I keep coming back to the regular one. I've also considered an LP, but I like the shape, feel and scale length of the tele.

Sounds amazing! If i buy one, which it seems like, I will also replace the black knobs, I don't really like them! What kind of music do you play?

Beautiful guitar playznotgood. I would also change the knobs. Now just have to chose a color.

I'm heavily considering the red one with a maple fretboard, but I really don't know. Maybe I should go rosewood? Or the silver one? Haha, I don't know. :)

Jooiie, I play classic country and rock. I like a lot of the old 60's rock n roll. I have taken an interest in Del Shannon's music, particularly his later stuff. His last album was produced by Jeff Lynn and it has some great tunes on it.

Think yourself lucky you're not left handed, the red one with rosewood isn't available and I would kill for one, my advice is grab it with both hands and enjoy!!

Actually, I am left handed. I do everything with my left hand, write, throw balls and such. But when I started playing guitar, all we had was a beaten up nylon string guitar which was "regular", if you like. ;) So it became natural for me to play that way, and I'm glad I did. I feel a little bit sorry for you actually, the selection of left-handed guitars are very small. :/

I too have the American Special Tele, and when I needed to get something with humbuckers, I went for the Blacktop. Its a fantastic guitar, I've got the american std strats and teles. But my go to guitar is the Blacktop Tele, it feels right, it sounds right. It just fits my style of playing (in a cover band).

If ANYTHING BAD to say about it, is that I'd switch out the tone and volume knobs back to standard tele ones and reverse the control plate to be normal. But PFFFT I can live with that :)

Yeah, get it, and CAR is tops. Maple or Rosewood it don't matter, go with what looks best to you.
