I picked up a used 52 RI. It was the most I ever spent on a guitar (although I have a few that are worth more than this one), but I couldn't be happier with it: kicking pickups, great action, super sounds, and just always a pleasure to play. I hadn't owned a Tele since the early 70's and always promised myself another one if I found the right one. As soon as I picked it up and felt the neck, I was sold. After playing it for just a few minutes, I was in love. Fender guitars always have run hot and cold for me--some just have the variety of tones that others don't have, but from this one I have I couldn't recommend it higher. My brother owns a late 60's Tele, all original but not always the high point of Fender production, and he was impressed with the instrument.

The guitar might cost you, but let's face it, you're probably worth it.

Good luck.

My daughter gave me a MIJ Tele 52RI Classic for my birthday last year. It has the "F" Bigsbey whammy bar. I love it and wouldn't part with it for love or money. It sounds and plays like a dream. It 'fits' me. :D

The only issue I have with it is the strings are a real bear to change with the whammy bar, and of all the allen wrenches that came with the guitar none fit the bridge adjustment screws; so, I had to go to a local hardware store and buy one that fit. You can't go wrong with this fine instrument. I wonder why the dude that owns it is selling. Its value is sure to increase!

I have had one about 5 months. Love it. Have a us strat, a $@! tele, a Brian Moore C90 and a 57 lp goldtop for comparison. It's probably my fav at the moment. Nothing wild about it as teles are boring to anyone looking for something to knock you over. But the thing is just comfortable. I love the neck, I love the way the bridge feels etc. It has a nice sound and I find myself using more pickup options than I do on my other guitars. Theres a lot of nice combinations between the two especially with the duncan in the bridge.

The nitro finish had me baffled at 1st. Felt like a basketball floor all sticky. That tamed down though finally. got mine at dcmusicstore.com In our set list it'll surely get a big share of the songs as it's a flexible guitar.
