I curious to know why Fender uses 250k pots in their 72 RI Telecaster Deluxes? I know there are no hard and fast rules but I understood that 500k pots are generally used with humbuckers. Anybody from Fender want to comment? Thanks

Tough to get an answer around here, huh?

I almost bought a 72 Deluxe and was warned by Local shop that I may need to eventually upgrade the pots. Electronics aren't my strong suit, so I decided against it.

Apparently this is one of the often debated weaknesses of this model. It's a shame because it's a gorgeous guitar.

Yes, I would have expected more responses also. However, thank you for your reply.
I'm sure there is an explanation somewhere. I'm surprised someone from Fender hasn't offered an answer. Thanks again.

Dont really know the real reason Fender chose the pickup/ pot combination that they did. The guitar doesent sound bad as is, just for lack of a better word "compressed". Swapping the pots to 500's make a big difference, but I eventually bought a set of Lollar Regals and a RS Guitarworks kit and the guitar is a classic. How it should have been made.
