i traded a jcm 800 for it, its a vintage sunburst, white pickguard, but it has a switch by the controls that i havent seen on any telecaster i've played, and has three noiseless pickups, what year/model is this and how much is it worth? :?: also, it has a chrome fender logo

Hi there photos would help to identify the guitar, the strange switch sounds like it could be a tele plus. Email the serial number to consumerrelations@femder.com and they will send you the spec including the model. May take a few days but they will reply.

No, the Tele Pluses didn't have the chrome logo. It sounds like the OP has a first-year (1998) American Deluxe Tele - remember, they had the 3-pickup configuration like that 2nd generation Tele Plus (with Vintage Noiseless pickups instead of Lace Sensors) and that same mini-toggle switch that combined the neck and bridge pickups in positions 1 or 5. The American Deluxe version used a regular aged white cover Strat Vintage Noiseless pickup in the middle positon while the V2 Tele Plus used a Strat-sized Lace with a chrome cover. They both had top binding and the tummy cut on the back of the body.

I will echo ukraider's suggestion to send the serial number to Fender to see what they say about the Tele.

I've never been able to figure out just how long the 3-pickup American Deluxe Tele lived - it seems like the American Deluxe line came out in March 1998 and I know that by the summer of 1999 they had gone back to the 2-pickup/3-way "modern" wiring configuration, but I'm not sure when that change officially happened.

Yes John....well remembered I had forgotten about those Am Deluxe's. I think they were only around for 12 months, before the 3rd pup and mini switch was dropped. Hopefully we will get some pics uploaded and if the advise to email fender is taken up then we may get date for both issued and discontinued.

Sounds like an American Deluxe.

Something like this? If it's Made in USA, and the serial # starts with DZ, it likely is. If so, good trade. Fair.

So you traded a JCM800 for it but don't know what model it is or what it's worth?

I could tell it was a real fender, it was clearly not a MIM model, and my jcm was valued at about 1200 dollars, and the guitar felt good.. i'm not an idiot and was not just going to throw away a good amp for some piece of junk guitar, and i was told it was a deluxe, and i guess they were right, but they weren't sure of the year at the store i traded it at. and ukraider, yep thats my guitar, did i get a bargain?

p.s how the hell do i put pics up

Those are pretty rare; I haven't seen any current prices on them but American Deluxe Teles seem to hold their value a bit better than the Strats.

To post a photo you'll need to upload the photos to a hosting site like flicker or photobucket. Then copy the link that has the [IMG] tags around it and it will show up in the forum.

Fair enough. I didn't mean any offence. It just surprises me sometimes how many people make trades on stuff they have no idea about.

But yeah please upload some pics when you get a chance. We like to have a good purve at each other's guitars around here...
