Would like to simulate that sound Keith Richards gets on the intro of Can You Hear Me Knocking. I'm pretty sure Ron Wood heavily used some fuzz pedals during his day with The Faces...but when it comes to Richards I can't tell if it's a fuzz pedal, or natural amp breakup.

I'm also kinda of confused also on whether a Fuzz pedal is any different from a Distortion pedal.

Any insight is much appreciated

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Interesting that there is no mention of what guitar Keith used on that track. I've always thought that it was probably a Gibson LP Jr or LP Special (with P-90 type single coils) through a small Fender amp cranked to the max. However, that's just a guess on my part; it sounds kind of naturally fuzzy to me.

It also seems like Keith didn't get back into Fenders until a bit later in the 70s (certainly by the time Wood replaced Taylor he was using more Fenders than Gibsons; in the late 60s/early 70s it seems like it was the other way around).

I've been able to get pretty darn close to the tone with my tube amp cranked and a 5-string Tele in open G. Use the bridge pickup but roll off the tone knob some to fatten it up and take the snap off.
