That's awesome! You are right, it definitely sounds best with a little dirt. I really like that it is three very useable positions vs. the Standard Esquire wiring. What kind of pickup are you using?

I'm using the bridge pickup that came out of my AVRI 52 Tele. I replaced the pickups in the '52 with Seymour Duncan Vintage Noiseless Stacks. My home is an RF swamp as I live less than a mile from one of the outer markers for Dulles Airport (in Virginia) and about 2 miles from the National Reconnaissance Office. Every Sunday night between about 11:00 pm and midnight there is a noise that affects everyone of my guitars, humbucking and single coil, that makes it impossible to play. I seriously believe that it is some sort of data transmission. I work in the intelligence community so I am not just being paranoid.

I knows the feeling, my house was built in the mid '50's and is not ground. When I am playing, I can hear if my wife turns on any appliances. I have grown really fond of my N3’s in my American Deluxe Ash Tele. I also use a MXR Smartgate that helps. I have heard great things about EH's Hum Debugger, so I might give that a shot soon.

Sounds like you have a good pickup in the Affinity. Is the body of that thinner than a standard Tele?

Yeah. Its about 1.5" thick vs. about 1.75" for a Tele.

Left to right:

"Butterbean", AVRI '52 Tele; "Big Red", 2009 MIM Standard Strat; "Buttercup" Squier Affinity Tele (pre-Esquire conversion)

Miami Mike,

@inspiredbyjb is my buddy in Scotland. He had asked Phil what he thought of my Esquire. I offered to loan it to Phil while I was in LA for my charity event, but Phil said he wouldn't want to give it back so I rescinded my offer;)

I was fortunate enough to have been invited to Fretted Americana and watch Phil record a few of his videos. I also got to play a '54 Blackguard. It was an amazing experience for a great cause (I created an annual charity event to benefit St Jude. http://Www.julianrockmemorial.org).

Did you make your straps? The strap on the Strat is very cool. I think buying a strap for a new guitar is almost as much fun as the build.

My wife had the strap on the Strat custom made for me when we were dating back in the mid-1970's. I used to seranade her quite regularly. I originally played the guitar from the late 60's until the early 80's after we got married (1976). I ended up playing classical and was pretty good. I quit when married life took over. In 2010 I announced that I wanted to start playing the guitar again. She said "OK" and made me promise not to sing anymore. The Strat was my first purchase for the new round of playing.

I currently have 5 guitars and a bass:

"Big Red"

"Butterbean"

"Little Red"

"Deep Red"

All of my guitars have been heavily modded by me.

For amps I have:

Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue

Fender Frontman 25R

A Crate bass practice amp

And a Fender Champion 600 heavily modifed to a 5F1 Champ circuit

I am current building a Weber 5F6A clone

I apologize as I seem to have hi-jacked your thread. I'll stop now.

No worries at all! They are all very nice.

Variety is the spice of life. I also enjoy other items besides Telecasters. I got into building effects pedals as a "Thank You" to celebrity supporters of my charity. I should also make a video tour of the ones I have built. However, I think the next one will most definitely be about Beck's sister guitar, Daphne.

Interesting place, that. You'd never learn where it was unless you called them. I checked it out last August while marooned in Calabasas due to the east coast storm. Glad I did in that my father-in-law will be moving back East and it's unlikely that I will be out there again anytime soon. There goes my trip to Corona. :?

David, Caroline, and Debra are great people. I also got to meet John Kasha and Dustin Jack on that trip. I was watching Phil play and Dustin record and a nice gentleman was standing next to me asking me what I thought of the Amp. I told him I really liked the ER and had gotten to play through Phil's rig the day before. We were chatting for about 15 minutes when I realized he knew a lot more than the average person about the amp, of course, it turns out it was John Kasha.

That was a great trip.

I was auditioning that Evil Robot amp using a'57 Strat which I took off the wall sporting a $40K price tag. Unfortunately, the business office like atmosphere of the place made me a tad self-conscious about really cranking it. :? They definitely are nice people.
