Hey all,

I've found that my low E string is annoyingly loud compared to the other strings when i'm set to the bridge pickup. I've got a Mexican Telecaster, still original pickups.

I've adjusted the bridge pickup all over the place and it didn't seem to make much difference (i.e. low side all the way down, high side all the way up and etc.).

Messed with string height a little but i kinda like where everything's at, and the neck pickup sounds pretty great where things are at.

Is this a common problem? Could there be some defect in the pickup, or would i have the same problem if i were to replace it?

I never see or heard about this kind of problem. Is it the original strings ? Try to replace this string.
Are you sure is not the way you play , push too hard on the low E ?

I'm just wondering do you hear any perceivable difference when you play the guitar accoustically? Also is this a new guitar to you, have you had some time when you played this guitar without this particular problem or is it something that has only just started happenning recently?

What about amp or pedal settings, or even guitar volume and tone settings. Try plugging another guitar into your setup and see if you get something similar.

Without knowing the history of your string changing activities and more about the history of you and this guitar it's hard to know what to say (but I'm not an expert on stuff like this anyway).

Sounds like you've tried the stuff I'd try, next I'd try putting on a whole new set of strings.

It'd be interesting if you could keep us up to date on the progress (or not), of this issue.

the only outcome i could think of is your hitting the string harder than the rest. you'd be suprised how many players do it actually. but it shouldnt affect the loudness that much.
i doubt the strings have much to do with it, the pickups probably just a little to active kinda thing.

what do i know anyway, i dont even know the difference between a humbucker and a p-90

i think a simple fix you could try for this is just to lower the bass side of the bridge pickup, because that will reduce the output a little and make it less loud, without completely hurting it, hope this helps

Is it possible to just lower the actual pole for the low E on the pickup in question?
The pole (magnet) interacting with the string is what causes the signal , therefore the closer the pole to the string, the stronger the signal.
Not sure if this adjustment is possible on single coils, but it can be done on humbuckers.

Sorry for digging up this old topic, but I've been doing research on this and in case there are others with that same problem I'd like to respond.

So, I've bought an all new American Standard Tele four days ago, and it has that exact same issue.

I've been playing electric guitar for about 22 years now and setting up my own as well as others' guitars pretty much right from the start.
Believe me, it's got nothing to do with how it's being played or set up whatsoever.

In fact it is indeed the pickup, the pole piece under the low E-string is waaaay more magnetic than the others. You can even feel it when tapping the poles with a screwdriver, it "sticks" considerably harder to that "faulty" one.

I suppose there are three possible solutions to this: Either go bitching at your dealer and Fender in order to invoke your warranty (which really should be done in the interest of qc, but I can't be bothered), swap your pickups (which is done by many buyers the moment after unboxing anyway) or re-magnetize the pickup.
For myself, I'm going with option number three, just for fun and because there are things to be learned.

However, it needs to be addressed, it's not just some mild inconvenience. Until fixed I've got myself a 5-string without the low E...

... which by the way sounds absolutely gorgeous!

Does a compressor help?

I have a New Mustang GT 100. I am having the same issue with my E string. However, not so much with the first preset "basic 65 twin" and a few of the others but the majority of them have a serious bias on the bass string. This is the Mexican telecaster which has had its pick ups replaced with Seymour Duncan vintage stack.
