G'day Ya'll :D

Well today I picked up my Fender American Standard Crimson Red Telecaster.

Yes I am excited about this lovely looking axe, however the following concerns me... or maybe I am just too tired at the moment to enjoy it??

A few things to note!

This thing is bloody heavy! I haven't weighed it yet but I did a comparison with my limited Blackguard Blonde Tele and the blonde is much lighter .

The set up from the factory was not to my comfort but I fixed that straight away with my own set up.

I tested the bridge pickup which showed 6.8 and the neck at 7.6...I find this odd because normally the bridge reading should be hotter than the neck.

It is very obvious that the crimson Tele sounds a lot darker in tone than the Blonde.

That's ok because this axe will be purpose built for Rock N Roll.

overall, it's pretty, it's damn heavy, it's dark in tone, the neck profile is rounder than the blonde Tele.

I don't think I like the sound of the American standard pickups on this particular one. I will try again tomorrow with fresh ears and make a judgement call on a pup swapout. I would be interested to hear what hotter pickups you recommend??

In the end, this one will be used as a back up to my Limited Blackguard Blonde

Very nice, a Tele just looks so good in that colour.

Buying anything that costs a few hundred bucks can be stressful. Give yourself a few days to play around with it and tweak it to your liking. I bought a MIM Tele this year and its the heaviest guitar I own. I was surprised, but I'm used to it now, it doesn't seem so heavy anymore. I know you are well versed in Telecasters, so your experience might be different than mine. Who knows this might be a good year a for a Telecaster, you may be happier than you thought you would be.

Very nice looking Tele. It's funny you say it weighs a ton. There is a Crimson Red US Tele at my local shop, and it's so light I though it was hollow. And it is severely neck heavy. Odd how much difference there can be in wood density.

Thanks everyone for the positive comments.

Yes I think you guy's are right :) I will tweak it as I want it to be. I really don't like changing any of the specs on a new guitar at all besides strings and set up.

I reckon I can wear the weight side of things because if I can strut a stage with my 73 Les Paul Custom which is also a tank, I'm pretty sure I can take this battle axe to war

At least I won't be complaining that my 2 tele's are the same guitar hey :D

That's a sweet looking tele.

Someone else has suggested you give yourself a few days with it before considering major changes, I'd also say that sometimes a tele will sound considerably brighter when you take the plastic off the pickguard.

I know you're going to enjoy this guitar.
:D

Congratulations Kineman Karma on your new Telecaster. Being new to learning the guitar.....and learning my own Telecaster.........these specs you mention is all a new language to me. I am sure with practice and a few years of playing, I will understand the specs on the Telecaster as you just stated above.

I love the red color too! I am happy for you. Enjoy your new guitar!

Well done KK, good pickup :)

I've been rocking the tele over the LPs and Strats for a while now, before heading to the gig you think "Should I really get one of the others out as back up and leave a tele here....." 2 hours later you're at the gig with 2 teles :)

Have fun, also Red guitars go faster :)

G'day again Ya'll,

Thanks to every single one of you for the positive vibes :D

I think it's starting to wear on me now. I picked it up yesterday after returning from the country with a fresh head :) and I finally realised the beauty of this pretty lady.

I wish my camera can only pick up the grain on the body which is actually very nice. It is a 2 peice body as I have notice now.

Ok, pickups to me still sound off!! I played with height adjustment to try and find that sweet spot but couldn't. I feel that my pickups may not be wound to spec. I mean they sound ok but don't give me that awe factor like my other G-tars do!!

Can anyone please tell me the actual specs of the American Standard Pickup.

Kind Regards

G'day Ya'll, well I have done it.

Today I picked up a Brand New set of Tele Texas Special PUPS!

I was fooling myself trying to feel the tone of the AM standard PUPS that were harsh on my ears with tinny highs and muddy lows, I didn't like em at all.

After installing the Texas Special's, my Crimson Tele came to life..I love these PUPS...very punchy with good note definition and I also find that I don't have to roll of the tone pot as much as I had to for the standard PUPS.

Now this beast is worth keeping as a back up to my Limited Run Blackguard Blonde Tele :D

Nice guitar! Somehow it looks familiar... Oh yeah, I have one too!

I know what you mean about the AS pickups man. I just never felt like it sounded like anything special. The AS pickups sounded good - just bland. I swapped mine out for a set of CS Nocasters a few months ago and WOW! Now, I love it!

And aside from a blonde blackguard, this is the best looking colour combination Fender has going right now.
