Hi all,

I am considering purchasing this used Tele online, so I am not able to physically study the ax.

Does this serial number look normal? I can't decipher the mark b/w the 'Z' and the '1'. If I remove the "mystery character" I can track the guitar to a 2001-2002 MIM. However, I cannot find any info online regarding that extra character. Most sites describe an MZ1 followed by 5 digits, but this has an extra character b/w the 'Z' and '1'. Also, is it typical for the serial numbers to be slightly crooked.

Thanks in advance.

Email consumerrelations@fender.com with the possible serial number they will email back with the guitar spec then compare it to the actual guitar.

All of my Mexican teles have a different string tree, the winged type. The one in the picture I have on USA made tele such as the highway one series.

Hope the helps, if you are very unsure stay away from it is my advice

Looks wrong:

1. Misalignment of the serial numbers
2. "R" is in the wrong location next to "Telecaster"
3. String tree installed backwards
4. Mexican guitar "Fender" should be all black, I believe
5. "F" in Fender is too close to the tuner

Many thanks for the info, you have confirmed some of my concerns. Funny enough this is a left handed Tele, but the current owner has strung is as a righty.

I have sent an email to CR.

I think I may have found out why the logo isn't perfectly lined up, ie the 'F' in Fender too close to the tuning peg. The logo was made for a righty and when put on a lefty headstock it fits differently. Here is what it looks like on a righty, obviously will fit a little more snug on the left handed.

Still doesn't explain the odd character after the 'Z' but we'll see what Fender says.
