A lot of those sites need updating; the best thing to do is to email the serial number to Fender's consumer relations - consumerrelations@fender.com - so they can look it up for you.

A 2009 MIM Tele could carry an "MZ8XXXXXX" serial number or an "MZ9XXXXXX" serial number - MIM models generally change over their number decals about mid-year (so the MZ8XXXXX would run approximately from July-ish 2008 through June-ish 2009, etc.). These are decoded as "M" for "Mexico Production", "Z" for "zeros" as in "decade of the 2000s", and "9" for "2009" specifically. Of course this is all approximations - the only way to know for sure is to take the guitar apart and check the dates or to contact Fender with the serial number.

In 2010 Fender stopped using the letters that stood for the decade and switched the MIM serial numbers to ones that start with "MX10" (which is decoded as "MX" for "Mexican Production" and "10" for "2010". Again, this starts about the middle of the year; so they would have changed over to "MX11XXXXXX" numbers sometime last summer.

And just to confuse things further, there can be either 5 or 6 digits after the prefix, so say an "MZ9XXXXX" number can be just as legit as an "MZ9XXXXXX" number.
