I was in a local music shop yesterday and came across a very nice telecaster. Upon inspection I noticed the words "crafted in China" printed on the back of the headstock.
I've never come across one before and cant find much about them anywhere. Only squires are coming up yet this does not have squire printed on the headstock. The serial on the back of the headstock is CGF1105714. I have been unsuccessful in getting any info through the serial number. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that. I believe it's the Modern Player Telecaster Plus. Played really nicely actually. How would they compare to the Mexican Tele's?

Hard to say. They seem to be finished nicer than the Mexicans, however, I personally can't put that much money on something MIC.

Different wood in the Bodies Pine, Alder Or Ash in the Standard, they don't say anymore.

21 Frets to 22 Frets

Glossy neck to no glossy neck.

Different PUP combinations on each.

Personally it's up to the buyer. I prefer the Standard as it seems to be a more traditional Telecaster. Where the Modern Player is obviously what it says it is. They seem to be a good instrument for the price.

I ordered a MIC modern player tele plus in mid December and was expecting mid to late jan for delivery but it arrived on the 21st. The build quality is better than I expected the frets are well finished and the guitar has good balance. The finish is a good as any MIM and way better than I recall the squiers. I believe the bodies are pine. In the uk they are retailing at £337 not included in the rebate scheme. A decent price for a decent guitar, mine is charcoal transparent. No gig bag but the recently revamped MIM standards have also lost this extra.

Don't knock them till you've tried 'em I say.

I've had my Modern Player Tele Plus, also in Charcoal-Transparent for over a month now and it is a fine guitar for the money.

The only thing I am apt to change is the neck pickup - what's the point of having a humbucker in there if it doesn't crank? I picked up a S-D JB-TB4 and I think that's what I'll be slipping in there - coil-tap and all. The single-coil tones are all right, but when I kick it down for a lead, I want a little more juice from that humbucker.

Thanks for all the replies. Was a very nice guitar to play as I said but I ended up finding a '96 CIJ 50s reissue Tele and fell in love with it. She's home with me now. Very happy. :D
