Hi to everybody !
I am new in this forum, and I am sorry for my rough English. Maybe my question can seem weird, but I would like to know if someone success to find a Gold pickup cover for the Humbucker on a 72 thinline. I know, it's impossible to argue about the colours and tastes, and some would find a true lack of good-tasting in my choice, but I changed all the hardware of my 72' thinline for a gold one. I can say it was really difficult to find all these original fender gold plated pieces. After 2 months of dialogue with Shaller in germany, they accepted to sell me a original set of Gold tuners, I found the Gold Hardtail in UK, the 3-bolt gold neck plate in Holland and a wonderfull American luthier makes the wood Koa pickguard, some other little pieces was more easy to find. I miss only the gold covers pickup for the two humbuckers wide-range, I search since 6 months a track, but found really nothing. I contacted two famous gilder for try to gold plated directly the original covers, but there is a special alloy on the cover, and gild doesn't stay on. If someone gat an idea, a track, to find gold pickup covers for this pickups it will be really very nice to share that. Thanks a lot, and Kind regards.

finding any modification or replacements for these suckers is proving pretty much fruitless unless you are willing to go and have it customized by a professional.

even without the gold covers, I gotta see a pick of what all this looks like. please post one!

Markenbach… thank for your opinion and comments, just one little accuracy here, I didn't realize any modifications or replacements that could change the visage or the sound of the Thinline, she doesn't need that. All the Gold parts are exactly identical and original from Fender, fussiness, I am sure you noticed that fender customised a lot of telecaster already in gold plated hardware, so all the parts used on the Thinline exist in Gold too. Sure, you could bring to a luthier your guitar when you change a knob or a tuner or even a string, but, lucky, I own some Guitars since more or less 30 years ago, what gave me the time to learn some little handling. The only one sacrilege could be the wood pickguard in massif Koa, but even I love the Thinline and most globally all the telecasters, from my opinion, Fender didn't offer here the most wonderful gown and present to these ladies. But it's an other subject that will ask some long talks, there are a lot of topics, debates with some different opinions from the two sides, bakelite or wood supporter. I am just happy to feel my Thinline with only noble and acoustic material. I don't have pics from now, but for sure when I will find much time and most of all, a numeric camera I will be pleased to share with you this pleasure.

Oh, I wasn't talking about any modifications specifically. Just, in general, these pups seem to not have the wide range of options that the single coils do (after market or not). I imagine that would include options like gold plated versions. The guitar itself only comes in two finishes, only one of which I have actually seen in person (the sunburst seems to be more uncommon). I would love to see what this guitar would look like in a rosewood/dark sunburst as well as what you are doing to yours.

So get them pics quick!

I was going to convert everything on my new sunburst Tele (MIM) to gold, with GOOD parts, but everyone told me the same thing:

The gold doesn't last very long and it starts to look dull and used, and that chrome is much better in the long run.

I just thought gold would look beautiful with a sunburst body.

Practically, gold is the best metal against the oxidation, sure, depends about the thickness used for the gold cladding. I talked with some professional luthiers and gilders, they agree after more or less 10 years, without care, the gold plated become dull, but with a simple polish all become back shining again. In the same time of 10 years, chrome or nickel alloy suffer too, but with irreversible damage for the oxidized parts. So, with a similar and regular maintenance, beyond doubt gold plated will run longer. I noticed my Nashville with chrome hardware asked me more attention to maintain and don't become "rough" compared to my Thinline in Gold hardware.
