i have a MIM '08 Tele with Duncan hot rails in the neck and Duncan Sh-11 in bridge.
I love the Bridge with distortion, but i never use the hot rails because it is too dark and distorted, even when played clean.

i have my original tele neck pickup, but im wondering if there is any single coil pickups you guys would recommend for a good neck clean tone.

Have you tried dialing in the height of the pickups. I love the newer mim pickups. I think the warm sound they can create is much beefier than a lot of the alnico pickups. I like to $@!&# the pickup slightly. A little lower on the low strings and a little higher on the high strings. On a mim you can do this adjustment on the fly with a screwdriver while playing chords or riffs you play frequently. I recommend turning the screws slightly (very small adjustments) from the factory setting until you find the sweet spot.

I've used a Twisted Tele neck pickup in several of my builds. I really like them. $40 new on eBay.

I've bought numerous Tele parts from these guys - no issues.

So far, one thing I seem to notice is that most Tele neck pickups have just a little murkiness to them. Even when I watch vids on youtube. I have a Hot Alnico 3 in one of mine and it still has a slight hint of it. Not in a bad way, but it doesn't get as clean as some of my good single Strat or humbucker pickups.

That's kinda why I'm opting for a Blacktop pickup for my other one. The lil' 59 wouldn't have normally been my first choice for the the bridge in the other one, but I already had it lying around here and it has a very nice sound to it. It really isn't going to sound very Telecaster-like, but should still be a great sounding guitar when it's all put together.

Regards to setting a tele...the OLD SCHOOL way was 2 nickles between the bass side and the bottom of the 6th string and 1 nickel between the treble side and the bottom of the first...now this was started with the original teles all though Bakersfield and such...worldwide...but pickups have different magnetic strength and if the pups are too high the string can get captured in the field and sustain will be hideous....so the nickle is a rule..but my Custom shop esquire beat to heck love piece i do it all my 28 52 reissues (i use alincos only)i do it this way and my new 62 custom limited edition GREEN flake custom tele with nocaster pups from fender cs and a callaway 3 segment compensated bridge same same and it sounds great (10's -46 DR Blues) and sometime slinky's...they all sound good even with d'addaro strings which i use a lot just a gauge a starting point...now on fenders site are the instructions for setting a tele pick ups according to them
http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... etup-guide

i have used Duncan, Frailin blues specialsmodified and custom shop pups. frailins for my blues machines and Duncan 5/2's for some guitars (nice nice combination for country) and just the pickups that came from fender on the axe. 5/2's are sweet the broadcaster bridge pickup and the 5/2 neck are a killer combo

Which humbucker pup would you guys suggest for a tele. I'm thinking about switching out the P90 in the neck. Art
