Hello! I recently bought a new Fender Blacktop HH telecaster. Today, I was adjusting the pole pieces and when I went to strum, there was no sound. This was with the switch in the bridge position. The other two positions work fine, just the bridge-only is silent. Opening the cover and pushing on the switch temporarily brings the sound back. All the wires look fine to me. Is it common for these switches to just die like that?

EDIT: It turns out a wire from one pickup got pinched under the cover. The wire broke but the insulation was fine so it didn't look like there was a problem. Is it within my warranty to fix the wire myself or should I bring it back to Guitar Center?

Welcome.

It will void the warranty to fix it yourself unless of course, you can fix it so it doesn't look like it was fixed. I'm not joking here.

If you choose to bring it back, leave out the part about you adjusting the polepieces or finding the cause of the problem. Intrinsically, you can't do any damage nor void a warranty by adjusting polepieces nor by visually diagnosing the problem. However, in certain circles, such an albeit, 'benign incursion' would be ammunition to possibly blame the defect on you. Again, if you choose to bring it back, just play ignorant, say the bridge pickup died, period, and take it from there.
