Greetings Fellow Teleheads,
So it's my birthday in January, and seeing as no one got me a Tele for Christmas  I'll have to buy one myself. I'm looking at an FSR Tele Deluxe in Surf Green, and thought I'd ask for your opinions here. I'd appreciate any advice guys, thanks in advance.

Bill, Good to see you. I hope you had a nice Christmas too, I had a very quiet time. Just how I like it, and I agree, you should have a matching Tele for your strat.

CR, I've been gassin for a surf green Tele. They're not easy to find here, I think I'm looking at Tele number 7. I'm going to go into Glasgow tomorrow and demo this beauty, if we click I'll stick a deposit on her. Christmas wiped me out this year, I've got way too many nieces and nephews

Thanks for your imput guys, I appreciate it. All the very best for 2012!

There's one of these in Dawson's in Manchester, it's either go on holiday somewhere warm in 2012 or buy another guitar. I've just gassed big time on my Telebration so think I'll probably be saving for a holiday instead though that surf pearl is very tempting.

I've also seen on Dawson's website they had one of those copper burst FSRs (that I've otherwise only seen on US websites), the copper burst was a lot cheaper, around the same price as a Mex standard tele, but still I'd like to have a tele with humbuckers as all mine so far are with single coils.

Let us know how you get on when you try it out.

I was GASsing for one these so I went out and tried one back to back with a Classic Player Thinline Deluxe down at Guitar Guitar in Epsom just a couple of weeks ago and, for me, the Thinline had a better tone and felt better finished.

I'm also a bit of a traditionalist so I'm not a fan of a sculpted body on a Tele.

I bought the Thinline but hey, whatever floats your boat.

Snowy,

I think you should absolutely buy it! The color is beautiful and unique for a Tele.

I've been playing my '70s re-issues a lot lately, and I am really beginning to appreciate them. I have a MIM Thinline and Deluxe and both a MIA and MIM Custom. I think these '70s era re-issues are very underrated. The more I play them, the better I like them.

Grab it - A man can never have too many Telecasters!

All the best of the season to you and your family Snowy and a Happy and prosperous New Year. The Surf Green Tele looks stunning-of course you know that you absolutely should buy it and a Surf Green Blues Jr. to make another matched set.

That looks really nice. I have a Black one, as a guitar, its really great, and very versatile. I like the green finish with white scratchplate, its very different to my black finish with black scratchplate. Have fun with it!

It's great to see you guys chime in here, and I appreciate all your comments. I have a dilema now though, let me explain. I've used guitarguitar a few times now, my Gilmour strat, my mia Tele deluxe, my CIJ vintage 62 custom car, and a few amps. Suffice to say, I've spent a few grand in there. I've never recieved a discount, or any freebies. The local place I use has always given me a great deal, and loads of freebies. I went in this morning to ask about this Tele, the manager tried to call his Fender rep. They're closed until the 4th of Jan, and he can't guarantee he will get this particular guitar for me :( I'm torn between being loyal to the mom & pop store, or giving GG my business. Now don't get me wrong here, it's not the freebies I'm after. I just appreciate these folks going the extra nine yards, they always make sure their customers go away happy. And they're nice people ta boot, I'm leaning toward waiting until the 4th to see if they can get me this guitar. GG only have one left though :( And yeah Slinger, you read my mind  I'll be looking for the matching blues jr, I have to.... don't I ?

Snowy,

Here's a potential problem...

Here in the States, Guitar Center released a limited run of the Tele you are looking at last year (along w/ a white and red version). The problem was, it was a Guitar Center exclusive, and the only place you could find them was Guitar Center.

This may be the same kind of deal. If Guitarguitar had them done as a limited run for their stores, your Mom and Pop may not be able to get them!

I'd maybe figure a way to put it on hold until you hear if it's available. (You may not be able to hold it that long.) Or, just bite the bullet, get the guitar at GG, and try to get your next Tele from the Mom and Pop.

Just a thought...

RickyD

Damn Mike  You just had to, didn't you! You know I want this beauty :D

Ricky, you make a very valid point. I get the feeling it's the same deal here, but the fact sjlen has mentioned his local place has one, who knows?

This all goes back to my time in the travel business, I co-owned a small chain of travel agencies. We were always up against the big boys, but we offered a great service. Our client base stayed loyal to us, because of the service we offered. I'll be gutted if I miss out on this Tele, I might just have to bite the bullet as you say. I'm going to sleep on it, and make a decision tomorrow morning. I can't thank you guys enough, I'll chime in here tomorrow with the news.
