hello everybody...
i had an am standard tele but in order to buy a new guitar i sold it...
but as soon as done, i regreted it.
so i've just bought a new one but an Fender Standard Telecaster 60th MN Bk 2011 from mexico!
is it a good purchase?
can anyone tell me what are the differences between american and mexican tele's?
is there a link on the web that explains that?

Well the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say. So you've owned an AM standard and now you've got a MIM standard: what do you think? It doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks, it's your guitar. Enjoy :D

Hey all good Mate :D about six months ago I sold an olympic white Mexican Strat that I had hotrodded with Custom Shop Tex Mex pickups. It didn't matter what pups I put into it, it sounded great!! the alder body was to die for. I do regret selling it now but I don't have to stress too much given that I have plenty of tone arsenal!

Lou if you want to make a direct comparison of parts and build the specs are here:

American Standard Telecaster http://www.fender.com/en-GB/products/search.php?partno=0110500700

Mexican Standard Telecaster http://www.fender.com/en-GB/products/search.php?partno=0145102506

But plug them into an amp, add a bit of reverb or distortion/OD and I challenge anyone to tell the difference, even without any effects I doubt that 99.99 percent of players could tell the difference I know I couldn't.

I don't have a standard, but do have a Classic '60s Series MIM and an American Telebration. If the building was on fire and I could only save one guitar I'd be hard pressed to decide which to take with me, I'd be swayed by the fact that the Telebration is a limited eddition and I'd be unlikely to be able to replace it but the MIM is a fantastic guitar, looks beautiful and plays superbly. The guitars feel different because they have different edges on them, one is bound and has sharp (right angle) edges where the other is very rounded and smooth. The neck on the MIM is a bit more chunky, both necks feel perfect but different to each other.

Really in the end it's about what feels and sound good to you. The people buying your number one best selling album aren't going to be concerned about weather your tele was made in Mexico or the USA

Something that I did to answer that question was to go to my local Guitar store, when it was not busy. I got an American standard tele and a MIM standard tele and a couple stands and turned on an amp. I'd play one and swap. I tried to figure out each setting, the feel, whatever else I could figure out. It gave me a good feel for both guitars.

I have a Mexican built one and it is built just as good as any other guitar I have! It doesn't really matter where it was made, just as long as its Fender right?;)
