Hello Telecaster friends

I am a newbe here and I can use some advice taking care of my black Telecaster. I just got this over 2 weeks ago and I have put some slight scratches from my belt buckle (I am real bummed about that) and buttons from my shirt. I know it's part of owning the guitar......but I still look at my guitar as a new baby.

I know those scratches are permanent. What advice do you have to keep the shine on my guitar - - - yet something that will preserve the laquer finish as well. Also...What cloth would you recommend to use to wipe down the guitar too?

I use microfiber cloth to wipe my guitar, but all of them are glossy type finish. I am guessing yours is not satin finish. Satin might need a different type of cloth and ways to do it.

As for the light scratches, would Soft99 do the trick? I use it on my car to cover the light scratches, and it work wonders. I believe Soft99 is not abrasive, and it wont ruin the finish or the layer covering the finish. But I haven't tried on my guitar though.

Hope the scratches are not deep.

Ok Bro, sorry to hear about your scratches on your baby.

I suggest that you wear T-shirts when playing as stating the obvious this will prevent button rash, also consider using a velcro leather belt instead of the belt buckle type.

Ever since using a T-shirt and Velcro Belt my high end guitars stay in good health.

Most of my guitars are nitro and to clean grubby grime etc I use not only on the fretboard but all of the body as well which does a great job and no harm to the finish.

Planet Waves Hydrate Fingerboard Conditioner.

Good Luck.

Thanks arizal_adl and Kineman Karma! I did buy a micro fiber cloth and cleaner put out by Gibson. Again thanks for your advice.

By the way Kineman Karma . . . I like your Tele in the picture!

I try to take off my belt when I play or strap the guitar high enough that it doesn't hit my belt buckle and is comfortable to play. At the end of the day all these inevitable nicks and scratches make the guitar "yours", so don't worry about it too much.

Thanks Obsequio. You are right about the scratches! I guess there is more a "personalized" touch to them. It's just that everytime I open my guitar case, I think of the feeling I am looking at a bran new shiney guitar since the day I got it in the package from Fender.

Thanks for your advice too!
