Just when I think it's safe to walk into my favorite Guitar Center's Fender Room, when I think my personal Telebration is over for the year, I get pulled back in. This time it was an ash P-90 Tele with a Sunset Orange Transparent finish. I was trading for another guitar when the first one came in and I missed it. That wasn't going to happen a second time. One came in Monday and I bought it before it hit the floor.

Very nice. What P90's are those? My JA90 has Seymour Duncans but yours look different. I'm real happy with mine, it's a great little guitar.

Thanks, Drew.

I haven't been able to find any specific info on the pickups. The first time I saw the P-90 Tele Custom was in Guitar Center's December catalog. Then the first two appeared at my local GC (one transparent orange/ash, the other black/alder) on the day I was trading for a Gibson Midtown Custom. Buying two guitars in one day would have immediately qualified me for Gear Addicts Anonymous. I'm almost there, anyway.

Congrats on the JA-90. That's one sweet guitar.

Yeah, like the black covered pickups on the Classic Player Black Dove Tele. That would look good. Hmmm.

Pretty friggin sweet! Those P-90's probably have a nice bite to them. I'd appreciate a review of them if you have the time.

That is beautiful, I don't know if it's just the photo but the fingerboard looks very red, if it is like that it must look very stylish.

Sure. These P-90s sound similar to the Fender Wide Range humbuckers used in the MIM Reissue '72 Thinlines and Deluxes when played clean. The tones are slightly thicker with less treble than traditional Fender single coils. They also dirty up nicely with overdrive and distortion but they retain more high end bite than humbuckers in both instances.

I play clean most of the time and they sound great through my '65 Twin Custom 15 and Deluxe Reverb Reissue amps.

The fretboard does have a redish tint that goes well with the transparent orange finish. Fender's Ensenada plant has really upped their game with finishes the past few years. It's one fine looking guitar for $700.

Man that is one fine looking Tele. I think the only way it'd look better is if it was sitting on MY guitar rack!!

Enjoy.

Thanks, and I am enjoying it. Sometimes I leave it out of its case just to admire the finish. Nice job Ensenada!

Thanks, Snowy. Pictures don't do that transparent orange finish justice. This was a case of love at first sight and GAS that could not be denied. :D
