2 years ago my 1999 52 reissue was ripped off. I haven't replaced it because the new ones are so much heavier in weight. I am wondering why . Am I going to be stuck finding an older one to get the lighter weight guitar they used to make. I tried on awhile back that showed 8.1 lbs on a digital scale. What of the Fullerton years? Is there anyone here that knows this guitar well that could help with some info? Also I have found 2 that are older in the 90's with a COA. Does that hold any significance? Not concerned with the retail. Just looking for a nice normal 6 1/2 to 7 lb telecaster

I do believe that the Old Pine Telebration is supposed to be a 52 Reissue but made of pine so should be quite light weight.

There is one at Musician's Friend here:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/fender-60th-anniversary-indiana-barn-52-telecaster-electric-guitar/h71856000001000

From reading what is says on this page it doesn't seem to have the 52 wireing and it says it has 62 style pickups so I don't know what makes it a 52.

The AVRI '52 Tele varies in weight just like all other models and by practically every maker. There is nothing significantly different now as compared to your 1999. I'll check them out at every store in practically every city I end up in, because they have always been one of my favorite models. I think you really just have to look around, because the light ones are still out there to be had.

Since when did the AV52RI come with a COA?

I'm not exactly sure when they started and stopped it. But most 90's 52 reissue's have them. I believe I read a post awhile back. Written by one of the staff here. It stated 2004 was the last year a COA was supplied with this Model. If you look at Ebay right now there are 2 of them with a COA for sale.

People just assume all ash is light weight. Ash can be really heavy ..The newer 52 reissues, as I mentioned earlier are beasts at *8 -8 1/2 pounds. Not sure why that is. I'll probably end up with a Customshop Black guard- Just to get the lighter guitar..

Really, and I was under the impression that ash was lighter by nature. I`m going to be ordering an Am. Deluxe Strat in ash next year and I`m going to make it a point to ask for a light one.
