Hi all,
I've got a Standard MIM Tele. Pick ups as bought. I love it, play it everyday and keep it in mint condition. Had it just over a year.
Went on holiday for two weeks. Came back, got my Tele out its case and whilst playing i noticed a slight discolouring on the neck pick up chrome cover.
It looked almost like smeared finger marks but i'm the only person that ever goes near it.
Tried cleaning it with a cloth and it wouldn't come off. I ended up cleaning it with a soft metal polish. This got it almost clean.
I sure it will never be like it was.
If i knew how to put a picture of it on here i would.
It looks like the magnetic induction of the pick up / strings has marked it.

Anyone else had same things?
Do these pick up covers tarnish?
What the best way to clean them?

Look forward to some feedback!

If this condition does not negatively affect the sound, call it good and roll on.

A metal polish should get it clean, although you don't want to overdo it as they are abrasive. Once shining, a couple of goes with ordinary guitar polish should protect the metal.

Don't forget that dulled metalwork is something that you pay extra for when you buy a Relic! :)
