Hi,

I apologize for contacting you about this guitar, but I just bought this 2003 Fender (made in USA) Telecaster from Guitar Center as an 'American Standard', and I don't believe that it is. The serial number is Z3017961. It is a beautiful guitar, but the inconsistencies are:

1. the neck plate is plain, (no logo).
2. no tilt adjust on the neck.
3. the bridge has no logo or engraving
4. the saddles are a bright chrome, as opposed to the brushed finish on most of the American Standards that I have seen.

Here is a picture of a similar guitar: http://www.richmccoy.com/images/Instrument/Full/FenderTelecaster2003.jpg

I thought it may be a HWY 1, but it has a lacquer finish, and most HWY 1s also have the logo neck plate, right?

Any help that you may provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
--

Pictures of your guitar would really help, but I'll make a guess.

Assuming the serial number is accurate and it says Made in USA on the headstock, you might have an American Standard or Highway One neck on a MIM (Made In Mexico) "Standard Telecaster".

Your link doesn't work (not your fault; it's his website) but the sunburst Telecaster on his page is a MIM Standard Telecaster. Standard Teles have all the features you describe:

1. the neck plate is plain, (no logo).
2. no tilt adjust on the neck.
3. the bridge has no logo or engraving
4. the saddles are a bright chrome, as opposed to the brushed finish on most of the American Standards that I have seen.

the serial number is a 2003 american series telecaster, but you never know...it might be a partscaster...someone might have slapped a USA Telecaster Neck onto a an aftermarket body. Fender's guitars from that year definetly had the brushed saddles...not bright and shiny, unless it was a deluxe model, but if it did, it would have a different serial #. Maybe he just swapped out the Bridge? The Bridges in the Tele's from those years didn't have Fender engraved on them either. As far as the neck plate, I'm not sure what to tell you there.

The sunburst tele on the right in the group photo is definetly a Mexican made Standard Tele. The one next to it on the left is an American Deluxe Telecaster in cherry sunburst. I'm not sure which one you might have bought. If you got the deluxe, you'd know it...and Guitar Center would know it too, and priced it accordingly.

I'm thinking you may have gotten a guitar that had a USA made Telecaster Neck put on it. I'd take it back and have them verify it...they can't advertise a guitar as being a USA made guitar if it isn't, and you are within your right to return it for a refund. I can't be sure, but I'd take it back, and ask their tech to verify its authenticity. It may just be a misunderstanding, and it very well may be full-fledged USA tele that has had a few aftermarket parts thrown on it. Happens all the time. Hopefully (and there is a good possibility) I'm wrong.

Thanks, y'all! I will take it back this weekend. I got the one that you say is the MIM, so it must be an USA neck on a MIM body. Bummer! The price was right, but I'm willing to wait for the American Standard Tele in that price range.

Sorry, about the pic! It works from my machine here, but this is my first post in the forums, so there may be something weird in how I did it.

Take care,
speeves

Hiya speeves,
the serial number tracks back to a Hwy 1 Tele Maple Neck in Honey Blonde.
Cheers,
rob

It was my understanding that all MIAs now have the tilt adjust.
