I just installed a set of Nocaster pickups into my '09 AS ash Tele. Holy crap! You know that ideal Tele sound you walk around with in your head? Well this is it!

I found the AS stock pickups to be just "OK". Not offensive by any means, just very bland - which kind of sucked because I found myself not playing my AS because it had no character. It's a beautiful guitar and it was a shame that I rarely took it off its hanger. (it's the Crimson Red Transparent Ash with Maple FB)

The contrast of the NC pickups is immediately apparent upon first strum. The bridge pickup is nice - real nice. Even with that no load tone pot open, it still doesn't sound harsh. The mids are more pronounced, but pleasing.

The neck pickup is smooth like butter. Where the AS pickup was very glassy, the NC pickup is warm. It's still clear, but much more comfy sounding. Usually, I just about ignore the neck pickup on my Teles entirely, but I found myself actually enjoying this one.

One other interesting thing to note - I found out that the current AS bridge pickup does not have a brass plate on the bottom. It has nothing - just the plastic bobbin.

So if you're on the fence about trying a set of NC pickups, I say jump off and run to get some! I pick mine up for right around $105 brand new off ebay.

+1

Those NC pups give it just a little more 'attitude' from what I can hear too.
