Hey everybody, I was wondering if it's possible to get warm overdrive/distortion sounds out of a MIM Tele without modifications (British type distortion, I'd like to be able to play Punk/Alternative, sorta like the Pixies). Do I have to go to humbuckers or P90's for a nice warm distortion?

you can do it very easily. time to look into the slippery $@!&# of OD pedals. Suggestions are the fulltone OCD, or my favorite Rockett Pedals Blue Note OD.

Here's the blue note -

Use your tone control also to roll off some high end will give you more of a "woman" tone when your in an overdriven situation. Especially in the middle and neck positions. If you dont have a 4way switch for the series option, I would recommend it. The series position with the tone rolled back and an overdriven amp will be warmer and thicker without having to change you current pickups. You could also do it with a push/pull pot. Either way it's not much expense.

What amp are you using? There's a lot of good overdrive units out there, it just takes some research. Good luck.

The Fulltone overdrive that's already reccomended is great for warm distortion as is the Danelectro Transparant Overdrive. The Marshall Bluesbreaker is probably more what you are looking for though if you want the Brit type,Pixies distortion.Teles are a bit too trebley to get a warm distortion from with the pups on full treble I generally roll back my tone pot between 2 and 3 to get a nice warm distortion,BTW if you swap out the pickups you will destroying the Tele tone that you want the rest of the time.

Gee, I don't know. Maybe ask Joe Strummer.

Great picture! Being a Star Wars fan. That guitar reminds of the color scheme on Boba Fett. Any Telecaster is a good Telecaster in my book.
