Hi all,

I just bought a new Telecaster along with a Stratocaster and I cam to tell you about the Tele. I've been playing for 18 years. I've owned two Jazzmaster in that time and have neve played a Tele until now. I got $50.00 rebate on a MIM Standard Lake Placid Blue. I must say that the color was influence by J Masics since he has a blue 1958. I would have like a Butterscotch one, but they don't sell them at this price point so...

I must say that Tele's were made for me. I wished I had found this out a long time ago. A lot of the songs I write sound exactly like I always envisioned them. I was never happy playing a lot of my song on Jazzmasters, Les Pauls. Like I said I also bought a strat, but the tele takes the cake!

I am a bit surprised that it sounds so good being a Mexican made tele. The only knock against it is that there is a good bit of garble on the open strings. I know the electronics on these things aren't the greatest, but they don't sound bad. With that said I will move forward with my plan of having pickups made by Curtis Novak. I'm just getting original specs. I'm also replaing the switch, vol, tone, cap and jack to RS Guitarworks Vintage Tele Pre-wired kit. That should turn this thing in to a $2000.00 tele. :D

I highly recommend this guitar, its probably the best for a begginer. check it out and see.

P.S. I plan on replacing the pickguard to to a mirror pickguard a la J Mascis for all you Dinosaur Jr. fans.

You are not the first one to find out how good a tele is. I've always played strats myself and when I got my first tele I fell in love with it. There is just something special about a simple telecaster guitar that is unlike any other. Of course this is JMHO!!

Thanks for the fair warning!

Though no one asked for it here is a picture of my new Telecaster. I've named it St. Martin as I bought it on the feast of St. Martin of Tours. You can check out my Strat wih my Les Paul and Jazzmaster on the Stratocaster forum.

Enjoy!

Congrats for your new telecaster! It looks just like the one I got too. Mine is black. I was told you can play live with the Mexican Telecasters too. By the way. I am new to this forum. Can someone tell me how to post pictures? I know this may seem like a silly question, but I do not see a selection to upload pictures.

Thank you kindly!

I bought my first tele in 1971. Prior to that I was playing mainly Rock and Blues, but I was starting to get into pickin'. The store I went to was the same store I had purchased a 70 Gold Top, and a early 60's vibrolux. When I told the guy who ran the shop that I needed a guitar for a country act he handed me a tele and I fell in love. I was only about 15 but I soon played that guitar and that guitar alone.
10 years later I was playing for a Show Group and one night on the way home from a gig I got in a one car accident out in the country. I broke my jaw in two places and I knew that I had to seek help as it wasn't likely to come along for a while. So I walked to the nearest houses which was about a mile away, and as I was walking along a car drove by slowed down, waved, and honked. Then it drove off. Later on I found out why.
As I was getting help for myself these 2 gents had stolen all the gear out of my car. They didn't get my amp, but they got my tele, pedals, p-bass, and mics.

Since then I have played in many venues and with many styles of music. I now have 6 teles and a whole slew of other guitars. But the first one is the one I would like to have the most.
You will always cherish that first telecaster. It has a way of revealing to the player an entirely different way of looking at the guitar as an instrument.
