I am looking for ways to reduce the noise on my CV50. I am not in a big hurry to open it up and look inside -- can anyone tell me whether the stock models have any copper or aluminum shielding in the pickup cavity?

As far as I know, Fender doesn't use foil shielding in any of their guitars. Conductive paint is used on some models (my USA Deluxe Tele has it) but not on all (my MIM Strat and - surprisingly - my CS Deluxe Strat didn't have it: they now have).

Well worth opening the guitar up to have a look, I reckon. Easy to sort, if needs be.

The CV50 has conductive shielding paint in the cavities...

Does the paint work as well as aluminum foil and copper tape? Would I notice much difference if I added those additional shielding elements? (the Guitar Center tech said he didn't think so.)

I don't really have any experience with shielding tape other than the back of pickguards.

I have 3 CV50 Teles though and they are all quiet as is my American Standard Tele which also has conductive shielding paint.

As someone else stated, I am pretty sure Fender does not use shielding tape in guitars other than on the back of pickguards.

I'm not familiar with the CV50 model in particular, but a lot of general factors will come into play.

Is everything grounded properly? The shielding paint, controls, bridge plate, ect. Does all the wiring look good and no cold solders?

Does this guitar display more noise than your other guitars or someone elses guitar through your gear? There's going to be a certain amount of noise associated with singlecoil pickups.

I've personally upgraded all my guitars and the only shielding I've ever done is in the control cavities. I don't think my guitars are any different noise wise than any other single coil guitars I've ran accross or played.

I don't know what your comfort level is with working on your guitar. If your not comfortable, have a friend help you or take it to a tech if you have to.

I think I'm getting standard single coil noise, compounded by some of the high gain settings I use from time to time on my Super Champ XD. I'm thinking about ordering some of Wilde Bill's pickups, but I'm reviewing other options as well.

Brent Mason uses a Seymour Duncan Vintage Lead Stack, he sounds pretty good. The Wilde pickups get some good reviews over at TDPRI, plus he's a sponser. The Bardens or the EMGs may be worth looking at also if your budget allows.

Some of your noise could be coming from your surroundings. Computer screen, flouresent lighting or poor electrical system.

Have a 60th Adversary Limited Edition and a CV50. Both about the same noise level. The only problem I've had is in my home studio where I sit near the computer monitor and if it is on will generate a buzz. Or in a couple of bars where they have install neon light "signs" around the stage.
