Great guitar, from the Vintage Guitar 2006 Price Guide your Thinline could worth $3800 to $5000.

The tuners are not original, the pickup is not original, the pickguard is not original, and there is no serial number. How do you prove that this guitar would be worth what the Price Guide says?

Yes , a great player. How much it worth ? Probably close to $2000 if the frets are in good condition, but very hard to say.

Yes. The guitar is a great player. The neck is soooo smooth. Frets, etc, are all original. I have all the original pots, etc. When I had it repaired I just went on and put new ones to prevent future problems.

I suppose I could purchase original tuners and OEM PU for this model but so many Tele have had the tuners replaced that I see for various reasons. Mine are in good shape, so I will keep it that way since I play the guitar.

Still curious as to why the plate is replaced.

I figured the guitar would be worth $3500-$4000, since the neck date is in '68, the summer it was set for production.

It's just tragic that it got damaged, but then I would not have it if it had not.

Thanks for all of the input.

Having all the original parts (if the date codes are legible) is helpful but without a serial number, no collector or dealer would touch it and the value will come way down. To be honest, based on discussions that have occurred in this forum, when presented with a guitar that is lacking a serial number, the first thought is that the guitar is stolen. Not to imply that it is, but as you bought the guitar in a pawn shop, there is no way to tell where the guitar came from and whether it was pawned legally or not. My advice would be to quit worrying about the value and do anything else necessary to get/keep the guitar in good, playable condition and just play the heck out of it.

Thanks guys. I do have the original case, as well. I have the original pick guard somewhere. The guard was really a mess and broken. I'm glad to hear the PU's are not that important. I found some at a repair shop and the repairman dug through a pile of PU and found what I needed. Hopefully, he was guiding me in the right direction. This all happened back in early nineties (before internet).

I'll take your advice and continue to play the heck out of it and care for it.

cheers

I guess I do have one more question. What does the pencil number 4 mean on the butt of the neck. It's located in the top corner. You can see it in one of the photographs.
