If the two SD singles are stacked humbuckers and came with a 4-conductor cable then coil tap/split options are possible.

Stacked humbuckers are dual coil, my neck and mid are true single coil pickups. The mid is an SD and the neck is the factory Modern Player Tele pickup.

OK, thanks for the clarification!

The SD singles are located in the neck and the middle.

The humbucking pickup is placed in the bridge position.

Hi CR, just stumbled across this thread and was wondering how the guitar is holding up? Would you be able to give us a short update on it? Do you still play it? Any niggles?

Thanks! :)

The guitar is doing fine in the Music Room - I have not taken it out to any gigs as I have plenty of other guitars for that purpose. Everything works fine on the guitar, though as my playing partner, Rick, said; the pickups are a little thin sounding. especially at lower volumes. He bought the same guitar after he saw and played mine, but he swapped out his bridge pickup and threw in a Seymour-Duncan '59. I never got to play his modified guitar before he traded the damn thing into GC. I told him he should have given me his and traded mine in, but he's very impulsive and prone to sudden mad decisions, especially regarding guitars.

I have grown to love the look and playability of the guitar and the fit and finish are superb. I play it about once a week or so. It's right there in the middle, strapped and ready...

After looking at the wiring of the bridge humbucker and coil split switch in my MP Tele Plus it appears the humbucker is wired in parallel mode which would help explain its somewhat weak output.

The humbucker has 3 wires and a shield. The wires are: red (hot out), white (either disconnected for split or connected to red wire for dual coil) and green and shield (grounded to tone pot). There is no black wire. Because of this I don't believe the stock humbucker is compatible with a series/split/parallel 3-way toggle switch.

Thanks everyone for their replies, I really appreciate it.

I don't really know what to say, but these transparent black / charcoal teles (the Tele Thinline from this series as well) have really given me a bad case of GAS, a condition I haven't suffered from for three years now. Pine body? Tummy cut? Mahogany thinline body with P90s? Geeeeeeeeeee...

*takes deep breath*

I haven't actually had my hands on those guitars yet for trying, I am still debating whether that's a good or a bad thing...

I agree with every aspect of the first post on the Tele Modern Player Plus "BUT" one.
The (NUT) on my Tele seems to be some sort of soft(er) plastic. I can put indentions in the nut with my finger nail?????? That seems too soft for a good guitar nut. So, if I can do that with my nails. I wonder the effect the stings under pressure and hard bends do to or wear on that nut.
I plan to change it out at some point. Just my view!

Other than that, it is a fantastic (Chinese) made guitar. Nice looking & playing guitar.
I would recommend one. P.S. Change the pick up!
Keep Jammin! Enjoy Life!

The 25-1/2" scale, C-shaped neck is as flawless as the body. The 22 Jumbo frets are perfectly finished, not a single sharp edge to be found. When I first plugged this guitar is to tune it up, the high and low E strings were about a step out of tune, the other four strings were almost dead on! The action was pretty good, but a little tweak to the truss rod helped and if I can find that danged Allan wrench, I'll drop the bridge saddles a bit and I think it'll suit me just fine.

Always lower the saddles to a reasonable level first, to see if you can get improved action without fret buzz, before adjusting the truss rod. Technically, the truss rod is not the way to adjust string action, unless there is no reasonable adjustment left in the bridge saddles. I assume that you adjusted the intonation after your truss rod adjustment, which is notoriously poorly adjusted, even on guitars coming out of the Corona, CA factory.

You'll know if your intonation is way out if your harmonics don't operate properly. You may already know all of this. I include it as you did not say that you adjusted the intonation following the truss rod adjustment. The same thing is of course necessary if you raise or lower the bridge saddles.
