I was trying out MIM Teles and had a hard time finding one that didn't have tuning problems, but that could have been due to the strings not being stretched enough. Has anyone experienced tuning problems with their's?

I do own a MIM Strat and love it though so I am still considering a MIM Tele.

I have a 2006 MIM Standard Telecaster.

I have to admit that the Frets are rough (Not as bad since I started keeping a Herco humidifier in the case).

As far as tuning, I have never had even the slightest tuning problems with mine.
I did put on a set of Schaller Locking Tuners, but only because I am to lazy to wind strings.

It came with Fender 9's and I use Fender 10's. (Made of a heck of a tone difference..at least to me).

I also noted a pile of uncut bodies that were assembled of up to seven pieces of poplar (although some was alder) and veneered top and bottom. This was a stack of material that would eventually become bodies for their MIM Standards.

The specs show the MIM Tele's have Alder bodies, so I'm curious what exactly the differences are.

I have a 2008 American Standard Strat that I love, but I wanted a Tele. So, with the guitar budget blown on the Strat, I opted for a 2006 MIM Tele off ebay (I know, I know, big mistake) and I really don't like it. The edges of the frets might as well be cheese graters and it just won't stay in tune. World of difference from the American Strat....So I gotta decide wether to mod the MIM Tele or cut my losses and look for something thats a little higher quality....

I'd just take it to your local guitar shop and have the frets dressed properly...should be fairly cheap. Tuners can also be easily replaced if you find some that are direct fit. I have an 06 Standard as well, and I love it. I plan to swap out the bridge for a vintage 3 saddle, which is a direct fit on the newer MIM's.

There's a big difference between the MIM Standard or the MIM Classic
series Fenders. I personally like the Classics over the Standards.
Classics use less slabs of wood for the body and vintage pu's and
hardware wich are of a higher quality then the Standards but lower then
American parts. I once had a MIM Standard Tele, but it's no match to
my MIM Classic Player Baja Telecaster.

Ole' I'm not sure about the sensitivity of the remark, although I'm guessing it may be quite accurate. Providing the assembly team is happy with their employment, it would seem the MIM version with all the custom shop pimpin' this guitar might be as good or better than anything made by possibly disgruntled workers who may be struggling to survive in SC. Happiness=Pride=Quality Adios' Da'me' el Tele de la Baja
I just received my new Baja tele from G.C..com. It is a Beautiful guitar in appearance, Blonde ash w/black pickguard. Unfortunately the 11th fret was ground flat to the fingerboard, completely disabling that position, as well as any chance to dress the frets. Lesson learned, play the one you would like to buy first to avoid this sort of letdown. Oh well.

Hello QBLUE,

What do you like best on your Baja Tele ?
For me it's the vintage look, flatter neck radius, medium frets and
especially the pu's.
Many players consider the neck pu the weak point of the Tele.
For me, on this guitar it's a strong point.
Sounds very close to my classic Strat neck pu, a Seymour Duncan
Alnico II pro. Already tryed to get some info on the Twisted Tele neck
pu, but no luck. I've measured the output and it's lower then a normal
neck pu. Mine is about 5.9 Kohms.

That a difficult question to answer. I really like the fact that it gives me different tones, while looking completely vintage. So I guess the answer is I like the pickups, especially the twisted neck PU. The blonde on blonde color is a definite plus, as is the black pickguard. I like the Ping tuners, and the guitar does stay in tune.

But the sound of the guitar is what got me hooked. I tried a Nashville, HotRod, MIA's, and wanted to try a Thinline but that wasn't available . So I came in a separate time to check my suspicions, to see if it was a fluke. It wasn't. And the cost of the guitar compared to what I was hearing, was a bargain. I thought this guitar, for what it sounds like compared to other more expensive models, is what I need.

The neck is also good for my forearm tendinitis. Whenever I play my thin-necked Strat Ultra I am currently experiencing a lot of pain in my forearm. The baseball bat-like neck is so soothing to my battered forearm.

I continue to find new things with this guitar, especially with differing music. It is a great guitar for Jazz, even that smooth jazz stuff. But it excels with rock, when I play it with my alt-rock Christian band. It's that S1 switch that gives it a lot of flexibility. I question the durability of that switch, but so far so good. The guitar sounds like a strat in the out of phase series position, so that is cool , in a pinch.

Q

There's a noticable difference between my Deluxe Strat and my friend's Standard Strat, both MIM.

I'm not talking about the $200, either.

The Deluxe had American-made pickups and an ash body, rather than Mexican pickups and alder body.

Really, my Deluxe felt and sounded better, I thought, than the Highway One or American Standard.
