Hello fellow musicians, I just have a quick question. Does anybody know what size allen key is used to adjust the string saddle height on my 2006 highway one telecaster (upgrade)? I also have trouble setting the string intonation perfect. Are there any tricks to getting good intonation on a vintage 3 saddle bridge?

First of all, your neck should have the right curve , truss rod adjust, to make sure the lengt scale is on the spec.

IM sure on You Tube you'll find how to, or on Google . Three saddles are not easy to tune and are not perfect . I have an 52 reissue with 3 saddles and mine are slot screws.

Use a tiny flat head screwdriver like I do and never use the allen wrench again ;) and as for intonation, there will be no such thing with that stock 3 saddle bridge! You can order compensated saddles for your bridge plate from stewmac.com . Or you can just swap out the bridge plate for a modern style with 6 saddles and have accurate intonation!

The three saddle bridge is all part of the Telecaster sound. I adjust the saddles until one string is very slightly sharp and the other is very slightly flat. Unless you have perfect pitch, I doubt you will notice the difference. I tried Callahm compensated saddles and really couldn't intonate things any better than with the stock saddles. Six saddles just look odd on a Tele.

Go to the Seymour Duncan site and in the "support" section under tech tips, you will find an article about how Jerry Donohue explains his technique on setting up a 3 piece vintage Tele bridge.

Unless your guitar is setup properly, it probably won't make a difference if you have a 3 or 6 piece bridge. There are a lot of variables that go into good intonation.

The 3/6 piece bridge issue will never be resolved, use what works for you. IMHO the 3 piece vintage bridge is what makes a Tele a Tele.
