Alright so I've begun moving forward with my next tele build. This tele body is a 2 piece made of Wester Red Cedar. The grain is very straight and catches my eye a lot. I have a little bit of sanding left to do, but as of right now it weighs in at 3.2 lbs. I'm going to be using a light brown oil stain and then a clear oil stain that is high gloss. The pickguard was custom made from saddle leather, it also has a thin layer of gloss laquer on the top. Not pictured is the control plate with highly knurled knobs, .02 vintage ceramic cap, three way switch with top hat, and Lollar Special T pickups.

I still have yet to find the neck I want, but right now I'm thinking I will go with a D shaped mahogany neck with indian rosewood fretboard, and medium jumbo frets. Sorry for the bad quality pictures, for some reason I can't ever seem to photograph guitars well. Anyways, hope you enjoy the pics. I'll post more

Looks like a very nice piece of timber you've got there. I'll be watching this one, can't wait to see where you take it.

Is that a leather pickguard? It looks pretty cool with this body.

The wood really is beautiful. I'd like to see it when it's finished, great work so far.

Hi Ryan, rockin' thread mate! Can you tell us some more about the project? Where did you get the wood, was it a pre-shaped body (I'm sure there's more to this project than meets the eye!) or did you make it yourself? Are there any more pics of the body being crafted? And last but not least: Give us some insight on that pickguard, if you will! Did you make that? If so, how? Is there any chance for a step-by-step? I would be most interested! (and I know a few who will be, too!)

Anyhow: Good stuff & keep it coming!

Cheers

Nutter

without taking over the thread in the discussion of the topic....

in all of my experience i have never found that the wood which the body is made out of makes any difference to the electric guitar sound at all. it does for acoustic guitars, but not at all for electric.

i hope this discussion doesn't take over the thread, as these types of topics usually take over very quickly when someone brings it up

but to answer your question...sure, cedar has a very warm aromatic tone

just got the bridge in, it's a fender pat pend tele bridge however both sides are notched away until the sides meet the compensated brass saddles 8)

a little more sanding around the neck pocket then on to staining/oiling/finishing the body!

as for more info on the body, i was able to purchase the body pre-cut but not at all finished for $90. it's a two piece body of canadian wester red cedar.

the pickguard was custom made by a guy in iowa, it's brown saddle leather with black saddle stitching along the edges as well as gloss lacquer on top. so sorry i don't have any step by step plans for the pickguard. it's a very unique and cool piece, i'll try to post more pics of it when i get around to uploading more pics.
