As you may tell, I am a big fan of the 72. Great guitar, great to play and loads of different sounds-led zep, def leppard, bon jovi... Great clean sounds too. Through my blackstar(HT 5R) it has really shimmering highs, even on shamefully old strings. (It is my only amp, I don't mean to say it's only great with that amp). I love the neck, it's really meaty with plenty to hold, but it doesn't get in the way of your playing.

I see it as a les paul-tele cross with a bit of strat thrown in-the headstock mainly, although sometimes it can sound sharper like a strat.

As for the build quality, its very good. Nothing has fallen off or worn away. Nothing has rusted. Everything(apart from the later mentioned issue)fits together very well. The neck is smooth, with smooth frets and fret ends.(not that I can compare it to something like a standard les paul or am. standard tele, they are too expensive...).

I can only really come up with one gripe. That is that when taking the tremolo (mine has a tremolo, I know some do and some don't) off, the winding is obstructed by the control knobs.

I have played both and ended up owning the Blacktop. The blacktop pickups had a great midrange punch to em which the deluxe just didn't have. Still, theres a great vibe about those 72 deluxe's.

If it feels more comfortable to you, go with it.

actually I ended up buying the fsr telecaster with
vintage noiseless tele pickups and a midboost,
Vintage bridge and 3 brass saddles with a 50's neck,
Bought it on impulse
Yes pun intended!
