Frankly the best thing for you to do is buy a different guitar has a locking trem on it already - or at least buy a guitar that has a non-locking trem so you at least have a body that already has trem routes.

For the guitar you have, installing a trem will range from moderate to major surgery any way you look at it - you have a guitar with a hard-tail bridge and therefore no cavity for any fulcrum-style trem. You have a few choices:

1. Go with a Kahler flat-mount trem. That will require somewhat moderate surgery to your guitar's body - they have to route underneath the area of the bridge to fit the cams of the bridge - but they don't have to route all the way through the body.

2. Buy a body that is already routed for both a trem and the pickup configuration of the Tele Deluxe; then you can install a Floyd Rose trem. Again, moderate surgery to remove the neck, pickups/pickguard and output jack from your current guitar and install them on the new body.

3. Route the current body for the trem bridge - major surgery involving cutting a route all the way through the body and then routing the back for the trem springs. Then install the Floyd Rose trem when you reassemble the guitar.

Regardless of which bridge option you will also need to install the locking nut - reguiring routing of the neck to fit the nut and (depending on the nut) you may have to remove the bullet from the truss rod at the neck.

If you have a hard tail bridge, then a Bigsby type trem is your only choice. Easy to install also.

Just a curisosity question - will that fit on a '72 Deluxe RI since they don't have the standard vintage Tele bridge? They have a Strat hardtail bridge and that wide-range humbucker pickup. I have seen the Bigsby kit for a Tele with the tune-o-matic style bridge and the replacement bridge plate that connects to the trem unit.

Still I should have mentioned that as an option for the OP.

The Classic Player version features a tremolo option.

I was thinking of these in my post - it would be easier for the OP to get a trem equipped Classic Player like this than it would be to route out his a hard-tail MIM '72 Deluxe for a trem. It would be pretty simple to fit a Floyd Rose on that guitar (provided the OP didn't want the body routed to pull the trem up).

If you want a '72 Tele Deluxe with a Floyd Rose, you can order one from the Custom Shop. Go to a showcase dealer and place your inquiry.

CBS-era guitars with Floyd Rose and humbucking pickups are very common these days, the CS has produced a '69 Relic Strat with an original Floyd Rose tremolo and a Duncan Trembucker in the bridge. Even this Jason Smith Masterbuilt Burgundy Mist '69 sports an S-1 switch to split the trembucker pickup.

Thanks alot,The flat mount Kahler would be an option without a locking nut. Just cant go crazy and have a a=b box and tuner ready to retune.
