This is gonna be my first post :)
I recently bought a 72' telecaster deluxe on craigslist ($350).
I've been thinking of replacing the muddy neck pickup with a SD Phat Cat P90.
Will the Wide Range Humbucker in the bridge overpower the P90 when I blend the two?
Seeing as a Phat Cat P90 is technically a single coil, would I keep the 250k neck vol pot?

Any opinions on this? Suggestions?

If it helps, I usually play alternative rock music.

Would you recommend shielding the guitar with copper tape?

Im pretty inexperienced when it comes to guitar modifications and would love to hear any input.
Thanks!

copper shielding isnt that bad at all. all you need is a pair of scissors and a little talent :)
you can get normal shielding copper tape from stewmac: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics ... _Tape.html

about the neck pickup... well you just have to look at the output specifications about the uotput level. the more windings on a pickup, the bigger the output, and less the high frequencies.

I recommend you get the guitar a professional setup. Adjusting the height of the pickups will help with the tone if done properly. I have a '75 Deluxe and it is a kicka$$ guitar. You may also want to work on adjusting your amp; set it up so the neck pickup is clear and the bridge pickup will be very crisp and bright.

Hope this helps.

Sorry I haven't updated this thread recently. I recently got the guitar setup and it sounds much better now! Adjusting the amp definitely changed the tone to something more suitable to my liking. I decided to look into cheaper modifications before going for a complete pickup swap. What do you guys think of switching out both the 250k vol pots for 500ks? Would anyone recommend this for the tone pots as well?

Im looking to give my distortion some more "crunch".

I plan on attempting to solder it myself so if anyone can offer any tips or warnings, that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.
