Hey, just bought an American Vintage '52 Telecaster. Love it to death, but the strings are really tight/hard to bend. Is this due to the scale of the neck, or is it just the string gauge that the factory sent the instrument with? Not sure what gauge the strings are...

Appreciate any help on how to get my strings to a more manageable tightness.

Put on a set of Ernie Ball 2221 regular slinky (10-46) They are a standard set of strings. If it's still "tight/hard to bend" then put on a set of Ernie Ball 2223 super slinky (9-42). If it's still tight put on Ernie Ball 2225 extra slinky (8-38). If that dos'nt work for you you need to train your fingers :D

The lighter the string gauge the easier it will be to bend. Of course you can use any brand of strings ýou like, but i would recommend using the same brand until you find the gauge you like. This will make it easier for you to compare the strings. And IMO Ernie Ball slinkys is a great set of strings at a reasonably price.

You could also consider tuning down to Eb or D. This will definately make it easier to bend.

The AVRI 52 Tele comes standard with 10-46 nickle plated steel Fender strings. Yes, 10-46s in 25.5" scale guitar are harder to bend then the same guage strings on a shorter scale guitar like a Les Paul. So you have two choices: work with the existing guage strings until you build up your finger strength or take the easy way out and switch to 9-42s. Personally, I prefer Fender Pure Nickle 10-46 guage strings.
