I've been playing 45 yrs. & was never a big Fender guitar fan(the basses are great) until I played the '72 MIM tele thinline reissue. It is now my main guitar. I changed the tuners, string guides and nut because it would not stay in tune(locking Fender Schallers & roller nut) & had to rework the frets. I'm about to do the electronic upgrades I got from this forum(pots, wire & switch) and I would like some suggestions on the bridge or anything else while I have it torn down. I'm not worried about a locking nut because of no tremolo, but I've come to appreciate fine tuners. The pickups sound great. I use a Fender Bassman 20 w/a 4-10" cab @ home and a Dean Markley 120 Sig. head elsewhere. I like the MIM better than any tele I've ever played. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm also setting 1 up for my brother to surprise him when he gets home from Afghanistan. This is the 1st discussion group I've ever joined. I just tested a G&L tele & the Fender MIM's seem to be better made(?). Thanks

What about putting a Bigsby on it? That would make it a one (or a couple maybe) of a kind guitar.

BTW nice of you to buy your brother a guitar. I did a 6 month tour in Afghanistan in 2009 but didn't get a guitar. I have got to have a serious conversation with my big brother :)

SorenK- Thanks for the reply. I settled on a Hotshot non-trem bridge. I don't know if I can say where I got it,but shopping around sure helps. I'm on disability so $'s are an issue. I saw a Tele w/a Bigsby and that's the way to go if you don't want to chop up the body. The neck, body & pickups are MIUSA & I changed everything else & I ended up w/my new main guitar. A store by me in S.Carolina sells them new for $600 & a couple hundred more & I have a Tele as good as any I've ever played. The wood on the body & neck make it look like a piece of art. Thanks again- In the NC backwoods

Sounds like a really nice guitar :D I haven't tried the hipshot bridge, but it looks really well made. I'm sure that it will improve your sustain a little as well.

Have fun.
