Hey all,

I'm new to these parts, so a big cheesehead hello to all. I just bought a new Tele yesterday, a Deluxe Nashville with the honey blonde finish and maple neck. I also own a Standard Tele that I've had for 6 or 7 years, and I've owned a couple of others over the years. When I got my Standard, I had a problem with the switch cap coming off repeatedly. It finally came off at a gig and I wasn't able to find it. So yesterday I'm in the guitar store and I see this Deluxe Nashville hanging on the wall, so I take it down and start to play, and the darned switch cap comes off within a minute. Anyone else have this problem? Suggestions? Another question: Are the Tex-Mex pickups going to be hotter than the pickups on the Standard? Are they any more or less susceptible to hum than the Standard pickups? I'm looking forward to playing out with this guitar. I love the mix of Tele and Strat tones. Thanks in advance for any help that you could give me.

A big TN VOL howdy to you, fellow Tele owner!

Might try some 5 minute epoxy to keep it on, though it could create a problem if the switch should ever have to be replaced. I wouldn't use super glue for the same reason. My MIJ Tele doesn't have the "Top Hat" switch so I really haven't taken a real close look at one. Another possibility might be to drill and tap the knob for an allen set screw if you're handy with tools.

Good luck!

I've heard people say to just wrap a piece of tape around the actual shaft once or twice to make it a tighter fit though epoxy would definitely work. Just another idea.

I used a small piece of paper and folded it over the end of the shaft just to tighten the cap. Worked great.

Thanks for the replies! I'll try adding some paper or something to give a tighter fit. I'd hate to use any glue, just in case I'd have to remove the switch at some point. You'd think that they'd put in a set screw or something. I've been playing the new Tele, and I'm liking it so far. I've got a month before we start gigging again, so I'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with it before then. Cheers!

I just found a similar query on page 9 or 10, and this idea seems like a good one:

"teflon pipe thread tape...works like a charm !"

I'm going to try it.
