You might want to try posting this question in the Squire part of the forum you might get quicker responses there.

I am wondering if its possible to pick up a used MIM tele for around the same price as a new Squire? Its just a thought and maybe worth looking into.

I done know much about the Squire line of guitars as I have never played one before. But overall I would imagine you get what you pay for. But everyone has a budget to stick to so at the end of the day as long as your playing thats all thats important.

...I just did a quick search at musicansfriend.com and it looks like a Squire tele is going for $169.99 - $299.99 and the MIM are $399 and up. So you probably want to get into a guitar store and see how they play and sound to see if its worth the $100 bucks for a MIM one. After seeing that I'm guessing you could find a slightly used MIM for around the price of a new Squire.

Hope that helps

Obviously, Squires are the bottom end of the price range and something has to be left out. Besides the bodies being a wee bit thinner and the wood usually being lesser quality, the electronics usually suffer. That said, there are some OK Squires out there. I prefer a glossy neck, and I haven't seen one on a newer Squire. But, I haven't really looked! I've bought a couple of used Squires from the 80's and they played and sounded just great. I'd go to a big guitar store, like Guitar Center, and sit down and play every Tele they have. Pick an amp like yours and just play them. Spend a couple of hours. If you find an American Fender or MIM Fender that you like, there might be a Squire equivalent that you might like. I used to think MIM Fenders were junk. But, now I have a couple that I play regularly and really like them. If your price range says Squire, then just keep looking until you find one you like. The used MIM suggestion was a good one. Its just that used selections are usually limited.

I have 4 SQUIER Telecasters, and once set up properly, they rival any MIM Telecaster that I have played. Thats the one thing to keep in mind with Squiers, they are not great guitars out of the box, but if you take the time to set it up, you will find yourself with a pretty nice guitar for a great price.

I just bought a squier tele SSH made in India made with RED Cedar
and Stock this thing plays great. The Red Cedar is Heavier than MIM
Tele and hasa Fast Neck.
I put on a bunch of stuff and it really Rocks and is a Great Country
Bender;Bigsby B5 Vibrato, LSR Roller Nut, Locking Sperzils,
S-D Hot Rail(B),Noiseless Stat (M), Cool Rail (N), TBX Tone Control,
Ernie Ball Reg. Slinky's. It plays as good or better than American
Tele or even Strat.I'll Post Pic's when I get Camera from my
Daughter. Thanks Dave

Hi:

My first Tele was A Squier I bought in 1989, Still have it, still play it, The were a lot more money back then than compared to now, Mine was $349.00 new minus case.
I have Fender gear from Squier to Fender USA and 1 Custom Shop. I LOVE my Fender and Squier Gear

Each guitar has it's own personality, try a few and find one you like. IMO There is NOTHING wrong with playing a SQUIER

I have a Squier Tele that plays great and sounds great. I also have a Squier Masterbuilt Esprit that is a great guitar. I play both of them more than I play my Fender Custom Shop Strat.

I have a Squier Telecaster Custom and it plays great (not as good as the 72 Deluxe which is what I really want) and the only real problem I have with it is the jack falls out every once and while and is usually loose so I have to use my palm to "slam" it back into place but my main guitar is now an Ibanez AS73 semi-hollow until I have enough money to buy and 72 Deluxe or 69 Thinline, but yeah Squiers are good if you take care of them.

Hello Fenderfereak4,

My son had a squire for a bit and it was a nice instrument,
I found myself playing it regularly. Sadly he sold it and
got a paintball gun.

I've seen the thinline tele in gold and it looks like a good
value, around $250 I think.

I also like the pickguard on the Avril Levegine model.

Best of luck.

I own a Squier '52 Butterscotch Blonde that I purchased for $169 @ Sam Ash.

This guitar has been played by two of the best players that I know & both say that I stole this guitar - My one freind is so blown away by it that he is looking to purchase one for himself

I read all of the reveiws on this guitar @ muscians friends (all 152 of them) out of 152 reviews there was only 10 bad reviews - pretty good if you ask me.

In Closing, I would not discount the guitar simply because it is a Squier -it still is a Fender - just an entry level one - it still has to meet Fender's quality standards.............

Very Respectfully,

J. Gary Bodnar

I've a lot more good things about Squiers than bad. I have a Squier bass and the only issue is that the strings rattle. The remedy that I've heard for that from almost every online review is to get rid of the factory strings... easy fix.

Another hint... check out every tele in your local Guitar Center. If somebody dropped one and took a chip out of the finish or scratched, they'll give you a pretty healthy discount if you grill them for it. I got $400 off my Koa Tele because the strap button came out and an employee scratched up the area around the button fixing it. I think I'm the only person who even knows its there.

Buy what feels right now and keep playing. That's key.
