Hi,

I play rock/folk ballads on an AC15 and I'm hesitating between several models to play on stage:

- Am Deluxe Tele - I love this model but I would not like the N3 pickups to sound too modern, I like the vintage Tele sound.

- 60th Anniversary - But how do the pickups sound?

- Am Special - I'm a bit worried by the intonation with a 3 saddle bridge and I'm not sure I understand the difference in sound compared to a standard Tele.

- Baja - But is it really reliable on stage (tuning accuracy for instance)?

Is there somewhere on the Web a comparison between the different pickups for Teles?

Thank you for your time.

Cheers

Anybody? But I'm more and more leaning towards the Deluxe... although I'm unsure about its N3 pickups.

Find a shop that has a good selection, go in and play them all and see what feels and sounds the best to you.

Mine has a 3 saddle bridge and it plays just fine. I even tried chugging just to see how it would sound. It sounded as good as any other guitar.

Try a standard Telecaster first and progress through them, you will soon find your weapon of choice haha. :D

Why should I try a Standard first?

Because you obviously don't know what you want. So buy a standard, and see from there.

Sure I don't _exactly_ know what I want but I'm narrowing down the choices and I thought others guitarist would have experience with the N3s...

If you want a real telecaster sound, a telecaster with the single coil alnico 5 pickups is the sound, as Leo Fender designed the telecaster around those pick ups. The N3's sound good for a modern telecaster sound that will distort like a humbucking guitar since N3's are basically a humbucking pickup, but they use alnico 5 magnets. The necks will vary on several models so you need to play them until you find the right fit.

I give you my personal opinion: all these "noiseless" pickups should be called "toneless". If you want the real deal, get single coils. If you want humbuckers, don't start with "noiseless" pickups, get humbuckers.

@Amerigo - That's exactly why I'm hesitating. I don't want a sort of lifeless, flat, shrill sound particularly with the bridge pickup.

Then steer clear of "noiseless" pickups. They lack tone, at least the ones I heard. Maybe with the exception of Dimarzio, but I still prefer a true single coil.

Your questions are so general that I totally recommend you go into a shop and play all the Teles there. Maybe you have to drive a bit to really find a good store?

These questions cannot be answered in an internet forum, you have listen for yourself.

Cheers

Amerigo
