Hey guys and gals. I have my fathers telecaster i am trying to find some information about. I was told you can look up the serial number but i went to the guitar dater project and it didn't find anything. All i know about it is it is on the back of the head stock and on the serial number plate is says fender custom shop. I dont know if anyone else know another place i can look it up or not but the serial number is CN90363 any help would be greatly appreciated.

Every CN I've seen in the past has been on an American. There are usually dates on the heel of the neck, there should be some "Made In America/USA" markings on the pots or wiring around it (like on mine) and in some pickup cavities there can be markings.

It's ok, I'm still a noob. But go under the switch and knobs. The pots are the electronic side of the knobs. There should also be a large orange bar type electronic thing (forgot the exact name) and it should have some manufacturer markings.

Zachh - can you post some photos of the guitar? With CS guitars you never know what they might have done, and Fender uses the "CN" serial numbers on things other than the typical Time Machine reissues (they get serial numbers that start with an "R" for "Relic" even if they have an un-aged finish). My other suggestion would be to email Fender's Consumer Relations (consumerrelations@fender.com) and see what they can tell you about it - they have a detailed database that the general public can't directly access.
