Keep it for 30 or 40 years. "Reliced" guitars suck. They fail to capture the real mojo of a true vintage.

You might want to check out the Highway One if you're looking for a guitar that will "age" easily. It has a nitro finish which is thinner and will show playing wear over time.

I own a Hwy1 Stat that I shined up nicely. It will relic just like the Strats of the '50s.

+1 on the highway 1`s. I own one that is about a 2006 model i think and it has been gigged/toured with a lot. Just in that short amount of time though there is now barely any nitro left, its worn right through to the wood in places and looks wonderful. Also, the pickups are great and the guitar plays extremely well. highly recommend them.

I really like how the Hwy 1 sounds dirty with the tone turned down a bit. It reminds me of a kind of the current Clapton sound. Any thoughts?

I have a 2011 Tele American Special... I love it. My 1991 Strat Plus looks as good after 20 years as the day I bought her. If they gets dings, so be it. I avoid dings if I can. I don't abuse my guitars. As for aging, I know they may yellow over time, but I'm not worrying about it. Thats what aging guitars do.

If you're asking if the American Special series guitars will age naturally like an older Fender, the answer is no. That's because the finish on the AS series guitars is a polyester finish, which is wear-resistant by its nature. They do have a 'satin finish' on the neck, so it may darken some with age, but that's about all you can expect. If you're wondering about future value, it will take 30-40 years before it can be expected to become a "classic" model and increase in value. They will be worth more because they are American-made, but never worth what a genuine vintage Fender would bring.

One important thing, though: If you intend to keep your AS guitar for years and have it be worth more in the future, then don't alter or modify it in any way!!!! You want to keep it as original as you can, if you want it to be worth the maximum value.

I hope this will help you.
