I played one at Guitar Center when I was trying out the American Standard telecasters and thought the American Deluxe sounded and played great. There were change in 2010 that made them better. The compensated (contoured) neck makes it easier to play in the upper register plus the N3 pickups.

Hi Rockerduck.
Thanks for your reply
N3 Pick ups are they the Noiseless type? I am not sure what N3 means?

Thanks

Hello ADR14,

I have a 2010 American Deluxe, however, mine is BSB Ash and there are a few differences between the SB and the BSB.

You are correct, the N3's are noiseless and I believe the N3 is the designation for the third generation of that type of pickup.

It's a great guitar, and I enjoy the features that are specific to the Deluxe (locking tuners, compound radius neck, upgraded bridge, N3 pickups, and S1 switching system). The pickups are not for everybody (so try before you buy) and some have questioned the durability of the switching system. In my opinion, the upgrades make it an easy upgrade option to an American Standard.

SCN pickups third generation SCN3, hence the N3. I like the Vintage Fender Noiseless also.

I should have probably explained my comment about the differences between the BSB and the SB.

1. BSB does not have body binding.
2. BSB does not have the tummy contour nor the contoured neck heel.
3. Although not noted in Fender Specs, The BSB has a slightly fatter neck. This was a surprise to me when I received mine, however, I love it so much that I now use the BSB profile in all my custom builds.

N3 pickups have nothing to do with SCN pickups. SCNs were designed by Bill Lawrence under contract to Fender. N3s are a Fender design with no relation to Bill Lawrence.

there's no way you can go wrong with an Amex Deluxe as long as you like the feel of the neck!

Alan,
Welcome to the forum. I bought an aged cherry American Deluxe Tele several month ago. You will not regret purchasing one. It is a great sounding and easy to play guitar. The binding really accents the guitar. If someone stole mine, I would replace it no later than the next day.
