I have some little problem..For me Thinlines (both: 69 and 72)are ones of the best looking guitars ever made.I like really like 72 in natural colour but I would like to have it in black and as you know its only avilable in natural and sunburst colours.Making it in custom shop would take 9 months and would cost 2500£ when stock version cost about 550£.For me its impossible and 2000£ for black paint is madness.I know that 72 with 2 humbuckers is really universal guitar but is it possible to get the same sounds from 69 thinline after putting in it humbucker in neck possition???

It's pretty obvious that you can do anything with a tele. Whether or not you'll have the same sound is for your ears to decide, I think it will sound the same and if there is any difference you probably won't be able to tell it very easily.

There's one rule that should be followed when customizing a tele and this is strictly my opinion, but it's a damn good one. Do whatever you want to a telecaster, but whatever do, let it keep its bridge pickup, that bridge pup is what makes a tele, a tele.

Im asking because I never had nothing to do with Teles and especially semi-hollow bodies that are getting feedback easy especially with more gain although I dont want some heavy metal sound or something.Just some sharp alternative rock/good clean sometimes.Would it be possible to swap ashtray bridge for strat style and putting there humb? You probably would say"what for you want to do this??buy 72!" but I love black Thinlines and cant affoard making 72 in custom shop..

Doing what you want to a 69 thinline would be hard. You'd probably end up doing a bunch of routing and essentially turning it into a 72 thinline. Another idea is to check out a 72 Deluxe. Its not the semihollow but it has two humbuckers and similar styling to the 72 thinline and it comes in black. It'll sound a little different compared to the thinline but overall its similar. Plus if you're trying to get a sound like Placebo, you're going to have a some crazy effects that will influence the tone and sound far more than the actual guitar. Just a thought. So bottom line, 69 conversion for humbuckers and strat style bridge? I'd say no since it would require woodwork. You're options would be to deal with the color of the 72 thinline, paint one, try out a 72 deluxe, or just deal with a 69 thinline.

Thx for reply.I know that most of sound modification comes from effects but wanted to ask if 69 with only changed neck pickup could handle it without getting feedback to easy.Offcourse I know that every change would need woodwork but I asked about it and probably swaping neck pickup for humb would'nt be so expensive at luthier.Always I could only give it to him for routing neck position and puting stack humb in bridge..Deluxe is cool but really I dont like strat head at tele body..But I really like 72 custom altough I would rather have thinline because of cool looking F-hole that really affect sound and that elegant and contrasting to body pickguard. All in all thx for answear,I still have to think about it..
