I'm making a partscaster right now and realized i screwed up in picking an am dlx body and a vintage bridge (doesn't fit). Originally i was gonna just drill into the thing but i thought better of it and instead am hoping to get a 62 RI body (3 color sunburst so from the front looks the same as the am dlx body i bought). However in looking on ebay, i was only able to find the CIJ 62 RI parts and full guitars. On the fender website, the 62 is under american vintage. I don't really care that the bodies from japan, i was just curious as to why they'd all be CIJ. Would there be any difference in quality in the body between a Japanese and american body? will the specs be the same as listed on the fender website? any insight would be appreciated. thanks

The simple answer is yes, but only a slight difference. Fender has a separate Fender Japan company. Actually, when the Fender employees bought the company back from CBS in the early 80's, they had to close the US shop, and Fender Japan was the only thing making Fender guitars for a while there. In the 90's US made Fenders made a strong come back, but a lot of "other" models were made in Japan. The vintage reissues were made there. The Mustang, Jaguar, and Jazzmaster was made there. Basically, everything was made there except the "American Standard" series. By the end of the 90's, Fender moved their 2nd tier imports from Japan to Mexico. At first the Mexican imports weren't very good, but the quality soon got just as good as the Japanese (which were VERY good, and affordable to boot). Since then, American players have been more demanding of American made guitars, which is why so much stuff from Fender is American made now. There is stuff from Indonesia, China, Korea, Japan, and Mexico too, but the new American made guitars are a lot more valued now than they have been in a long long time. In any case, since around 2000 or so, Fender decided that Fender Japan should make products primarily for the Japanese market, and not for the American market. I believe the same applies the other way around. The quality is quite similar, but the American made stuff is better. The hardware, for instance is of a slightly different size because of the metric system in Japan. In most cases, it will still work though.
