Hello All
I have an American special Telecaster with Texas Special pickups, i dont like the Pickups, what i am wondering is, i would like to replace the pickups with Authentic American Telecaster Pickups, is this possible? and if so has anybody done this? and if so how did the Guitar sound?.
what was the cost involved?

Thanks
Allan

I was sort of in the same boat but I traded the guitar in on another axe instead of replacing the pickups. Reason for this was the jumbo frets were just a lil too big for my tastes. The Texas Special pickups are very popular and you can get some good sounds out of them but they were too hot for my personal taste. It totally depends on what you wanna replace the pickups with. I doubt you can buy American Standard Tele pickups unless you buy em used. But there are other options certainly. Anyway, it usually costs me $50 to $70 to have a couple pickups installed, plus the cost of the pickups themselves of course.

10 years ago i bought a muddy waters MIM signature tele ...and i'm pretty sure it had the authentic pups ....i traded the guitar but kept the pups ...they sound unbeleivably good but the bridge pup couldn't handle any overdrive without squeeling...microphonic...i never had them dipped but i should.....a steel guitar playing, old school country dude friend of mine told me all the old tele pups were like this ...i never looked into it to see if it was true or if my muddy waters pups were flawed from the factory .....but damn they sound good!

I would go with the noiseless pickups. They are the same in the American deluxe. I have the American Standard and that's my next choice.
