I have a Squier Classic Vibe '62 Telecaster Custom. I really love the way it feels and sounds. If I were to upgrade to a new Fender Classic Series '50's or '60's Telecaster would it sound/feel noticeably better? I obviously like the 'old school' Tele sound. Thanx!

I just picked up a Classic Vibe 50's tele and as an owner of an American Std and an Allparts tele i put together, i can say the squier classic vibes are smokin' and hold their own ...i absolutely love mine and passed up a chance to get a 2nd hand 60's sunburst rosewood one for $250 ...i would have loved to have that as well ....

you could do what i did - load the squier with a set of fender noiseless pups ....they're pretty nicely priced these days

that's a better investment and a better guitar at the end of the day then just getting the next model up! IMO

i dare say the Chinese can make a heck of a guitar for a good price ....i had a long standing love affair with a chinese Epi Les Paul that i played the crap out of for years at gigs .....

having said that, i always replace pups in cheaper guitars ...always ..but then again, i won't use american std pups either cause of the noise ....

Hi
I own the same squire classic vibe custom and got it after reading all the great reviews.
They were saying how much better it was compared to a MIM fender and i absolutely agree
i feels and plays great espicially after i replace the bridge pick up with a dimarzio Pre B-1 and the nexk pick up with a dimarzio area T. still maintains the telecaster sound but the bridge pickup is so powerfull that i have it set quite low from the strings to balance with the neck pick up....Also today i replaced the bridge with a willkinson bridge with compensated brass saddles and makes the notes sustain more...

I have a classic 60s series MIM tele but can't give you a comparison as I have never played a Squire. But I can tell you that my MIM is fantastic the neck is perfect, it just plays so well. I guess you could go to a store and try one out and see how it feels. At the end of the day only you will know what you like the most.

Redfarfisa,

Here's my thoughts... I own both the Classic Series 50's and 60's Telecasters and I've played several of the Squier Classic Vibes.

Absolutely not "dissing" the guys w/ their Classic Vibes, because they really are nice Telecasters, but you'll notice that they both replaced the pickups. I think the MIM Classic Series hold their own w/out having to change anything on them at all. I really think the Classic Series MIMs are among the best MIMs made.

RickyD

For my money, I prefer the Classic Series MIM's over the Squier

Still on the subject of how good we like our squire classic vibe custom, Like i said i have replaced the stock pick ups both neck and bridge with dimarzio's and still maintains the tele tone.

love the sound of the neck pickup? with My Fender Mustang IV amp.
