I'm looking to buy a new Telecaster and particularly like the Fender 72 Telecater Delux. I've seen that the price for one of these in only £700 which has got me woundering if they are Mexican. Can Anyone tell me if they are American or Mexican as i prefer to pay more for an American.

Here is a link to the guitar if anyone needs it: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-72-telec ... lnut/20540

Thanks.

Don't be an "I want an American Fender Telecaster" corksniffer! Don't let the fact that the 72 Deluxe is made in Mexico slow you down. I have that exact guitar and it's beautiful! Fit and finish is superb. It's a very sweet sounding Tele and the neck is probably the best feeling neck among all my Teles - and I've got a lot of Telecasters; American, Japanese and Mexican. I like the fact the guitar is unique and different, but it still is very much a Telecaster.

About a month ago I bought one of the new American Vintage Re-issue '72 Custom Telecaster - $1,500. It is a very, very nice Fender Telecaster. When I compare it side-by-side to my Made in Mexico Custom Telecaster ($700), the Mexican guitar is 95% of the American guitar. That's not a slam on the American Tele, it just says how nice the Mexican Tele is. There is not an $800 difference between the two guitars!

I think if you tried the guitar you'd realize just what a quality Telecaster it is!

+1000 dont be snobby!!!   yes it is mexican made but that is no bad thing. The 800 dollar difference between the two is alot of the extra cost of labour etc. Mexican made guitars are great. and the 72 is one of the best, its really really good. I say this because i have one.

and welcome to the forum. theres a lot of knowledge here

Thanks for all the help guys :) I went ahead and got the guitar and i agree it's amazing. I have a problem though. When i plug it in a turn the distortion on i get a strange buzzing sound. The buzz isn't from the distortion on the amp, i know this 100%. The weird thing is when i touch the strings or anything made of metal on the guitar then the buzzing stops. So when i play there is no buzzing but when i take my hands off all the strings it comes back. Also when i touch anything else metallic from anything that's plugged into the same extension lead the buzz goes. I don't think it's harmful but if i can get rid of it then i want to.

Sounds like you have a bad ground. If you bought it new take it back and have them fix it. And don't chalk it up to being Made In Mexico, this can happen to US models as well and it has.

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on the new guitar!

Hey, I have one of these in black from when they started reissuing it back in 2004 I think. Something about it's hybrid look and baseball bat thick neck that is enjoyable. Still a bit of a tele sound with a sweet rocky sound from those wide range pickups. I found the guitar turned out to be more versatile than I expected. Got a blues, rock thing going on but sounds great clean too

Just noticed the link you posted is for gak. They have a massive and very well stocked store which I live.near. always have an impressive several long racks of fender guitars. I go in there to drool occasionally.

Regarding the buzz...

I just got my American Vintage Reissue and it, too, has the grounding buzz. So, just want to back up the statement that the American stuff is not perfect.

Cheers!
