Jim Campilongo posts here? He's wonderful. So musical and original. I've got a bunch of his stuff in my iTunes list.

I also really like John Jennings, who used to play in Mary Chapin Carpenter's band. Such a fresh and personal approach to phrasing... a great country player, but just not the same old banjo rolls and stuff.

To me, Telecasters aren't supposed to "sing". That implies virtuoso style on an instrument that's fairly crude and brash. Strats are for the virtuosos like Hendrix, Mayer, Clapton, etc.

When I think of the Telecaster, I think of Keith Richards, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, etc. Raw and rhythmic.

Muddy Waters
Eric Clapton played telecasters too.
James Burton wrote Suzie Q also
Joe Walsh, he even plays slide on his telecaster.

I consider players who do leads like someone singing, and plays with emotion, a good player.

He posted two or three times on a post that was discussing his equipment. Amps in particular.

James Burton wrote Suzie Q also

"Susie Q" is a song by Louisiana-born singer and guitarist Dale Hawkins (1936–2010). He wrote the song himself, but when it was released, Stan Lewis, the owner of Jewel/Paula Records, and Eleanor Broadwater, the wife of Nashville DJ Gene Nobles, were also credited as co-writers to give them shares of the royalties.

Hawkins cut "Susie Q" at the KWKH Radio station in Shreveport, Louisiana. "Susie Q" was a late rockabilly song which captured the spirit of Louisiana and featured guitar work by James Burton, who also worked with Ricky Nelson, among others.

Hawkins' original version is also included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll".

I never knew who was playing those cool riffs on Mary Chapin Carpenter's tunes, thanks for that info! ('He Thinks He'll Keep Her', 'Passionate Kisses', etc.)

My favorites for mine are just simple melodies, both clean and gainy.

I want to know who you think is the best at playing a Telecaster ...

Prince was the first to make me open my eyes to the Tele's possibilities; Buck Owens was the first one to make me appreciate the Tele.
